30DS question

I started the 30DS today. I usually do about 30 minutes on the treadmill followed by strength training. But after doing the video I don't feel like I have anything left for the treadmill or anything else. Is it okay if I just do the 20 minute workout alone, or should I also be doing more cardio (such as my usual 30 min. on the treadmill) everyday with it in order to have results? I want to make sure I loose the weight/inches.

its really up to you. i didnt do much else (exercise-wise) besides 30ds when i did it, and i still lost pounds and inches.

30DS is hard enough without doing more straight after! I some times run in the afternoon after doing the shred in the morning.
  • So you are having success just doing 30DS without doing much else? That's the main thing I wanted to know. I didn't know if it was meant to be done completely by itself for 30 days (including diet change of course) or if it was meant to supplement your normal routine.
  • I've JUST started the 30DS about a week ago. I actually wrote down all of the steps and do them by myself with a stop watch at the gym. I actually do additional cardio (7 minutes rather than 2 minutes) to up the challenge. I've decided to stay on phase 1 for 3-4 weeks before moving on the phase 2. Good luck and have fun!
  • I've noticed by doing the extra cardio, I'm loosing inches. I've barely lost weight... but I've been told again and again to pay attention to inches, not weight.
  • I figure you gain muscle weight is why. That makes sense. I will TRY to add more cardio to it, but I think I will have to do the treadmill before I do the video. Once the video was done today I didn't think I could do anything more.
  • Another question. Do you think I could have the same results if I do 30DS every other day, and do my normal cardio workout routine on the off days? I wonder if it is better on your muscles to repair and rebuild if you don't push them like that every single day. Or am I wrong about this?

I have been going to the gym mon-fri for over a year. I just finished day 8 level one and i have been doing it for 8 days in a row and nothing else and i have already lost an inch in my stomach and a half inch in my legs. so my opinion is im just gonna give this my full attention everyday until the 30 days is up. im loving the results so far. just remember the first few days are the hardest.

I was the same way when I did 30DS the first time about a year back. My way of getting around it was to do the video in the morning, then 30 minutes mild/moderate-intensity cardio in the evening. But I've seen plenty of people who just do the video every day and still see awesome results!

That said, I didn't see much results because I was still eating poorly at the time, silly of me! Really need to do it again, eating healthily along the way this time.

    Edited to add:

I think Jillian Michaels said once (maybe on her iPhone app? don't quote me on this) that she devised the work-out so that it could be done every day without doing damage. I found that after Day 4 or so, the soreness went away. But of course listen to your body, that's the most important thing!

fairly recently on her podcast she said she meant the 30ds to be done 3-4 times a week..
i know a lot of people that still do it every day though

I don't know much about the 30DS ( still waiting for it to get here in the post!) but the other day I saw someone one say that they'd heard JM say on a podcast that it was intended for use on about 4 days a week with rest days...so precisely the opposite of what someone else said here! sorry if I've just made things more confusing!! :)

I've done 30DS and unfortunately, its all about time. Add your extra cardio in the afternoon and you will get results. I've done P90X also and I think the game changer is 45 to 50 minutes and lots of sweat. If you want it you gotta do it.

Oooh okay, that's good to know! I don't think I'm pulling what I said out of nowhere though, maybe someone else told me that or Jillian contradicted herself, lol. Wish I could find it! Pretty sure it was in her iphone app a few months ago, and the archives just don't go back that far.

Last year I relied heavily on doing the 30DS, but I used what I've read about fitness combined with how my body felt. I never did it everyday because I wanted at least a day a week for my body to relax and maybe one day to swap up and do some other exercise. When I started I only did the exercises, but as I got progressivly stronger I would maybe do two of the levels back to back (that took awhile to get to, lol) or do some cardio afterward, like running a mile and walking a mile. Just don't overdo it and be sure to stick to it. :)
