Hey everyone! I've just about completed my cold weather running wardrobe. All I need is socks and a neck warmer I can pull over my nose without making it run faster than I do! Any suggestions? I've heard great things about Smartwool socks, but there are so many to choose from! Please help!!! :-)

Is it really cold where you are? How long are your runs? I just go with regular sports socks, shorts and a shirt or capri pants and a lightweight long sleeve tech tee if its baltic! And sometimes a hat and gloves! :) x

I'm in the Chicago area, so it can get pretty cold here. I've already decided that I won't go if it's below 20 degrees or if there's ice or snow on the road. If the roads are clear, I'll go. But I'm tired of using the excuse of not having the right clothing to run outside in the winter. I worry about my feet getting wet from slush.

I'm from the North of England originally where its reknowned for being cold... also currently live in the coldest part of UK (Due to being inland (was -20degC here last year in mid december!) I just wear regular socks and run fast to warm up! :) x

Yikes! Yup, that's pretty cold! We get below zero temps here, too, and I get cold pretty easily.
  • I have the same concern. I just started running and am training for a 10K in March so need to run outside. I just bought Under Armour pants, compression shirt, and jacket. The socks I have some padded wicking socks, I didn't go wool I am thinking of running when it is 30 degrees and warmer outside. I also bought a pretty light weight polar fleece face mask that goes all the way down your neck. I will be trying it out this weekend and see how it goes. I live in Nebraska so not quite as bad as Chicago, that wind is tough! If you are going to try some other gear I would like to hear how it goes for you. It will be too long to run indoors all winter...way too boring. I don't like being cold so I am worried but eager to see if I reallly actuallly stay warm. That under armour is supposed to do the trick. Best of luck!

Thanks! I have UA compression tights that work really well. I just bought a Nike polar fleece hoodie. I wanted the UA, but it's just ridiculous price-wise. Maybe for Christmas. I just ordered some Smartwool socks and a Buff warmer. I should have them early next week. :-)
