What is your food distraction?

I usually make excuses to eat what I want - such as "i was really hungry!" or "my stomach hurt!" or "i didn't have anything else to do!" This happens even when I know in my mind that I've had enough to eat. But my mind also tells me that I really LIKE to eat. It doesn't matter that my food log already tells me that I've had enough. I'm sure that if I can occupy my divided mind with something else, I'll realize that I don't need to eat any more and I won't die if I resist! So my question is, what can I do to keep my mind off of eating? Keep it clean, please! :blushing:

What helps me is to keep 2 post-its on the fridge - one with my current weight, and one with my goal. Reminds me that I won't make my goals by snacking!!0

I love food too! Sometimes, I will drink tons of tea or diet soda. Not the best thing but in the beginning, you do what you gotta do. Also, I try to rationalize and say, tommorow I have a fresh bunch of calories and then I can have so and so snack. Other than that, I chew lots of sf gum. It sucks and it's hard sometimes. Also, what about thinking about something you need to do like laundry or even writing down lists of why you want to lose? Maybe it can help?0

A hobby or exercise helps keep my mind off food a bit. The exercise makes me hungry but after I log it on here I get an appreciation for what the food I'm about to eat is worth lol0

One thing that might help would be to spread out your meals.... instead of 3 have 6 small meals. That way you can eat the things you like and trick your mind. I don't know if that will be helpful to you. I hope it is.
My food distraction is things people bring in to work....unexpected yummies! That and snacks after work! This time of the year it's especially difficult!0 -
I just made a personal rule for myself...will see if this works....before I consume any calories of any kind I must drink one full 8oz glass of water. Usually that takes away my urge to eat anything.0

I like this too, except it makes me feel light headed and then I think I need to eat to fix it!!! :sad:0 -
Great rule to have, drink lots of water before giving in to craving. I try hot tea, coffee, diet soda and chicken brother without sodium. I do have to admit, my hubby is hard core and his presence in the kitchen gives me LOTS OF WILL POWER and more WILL POWER!0

Tea! especially sweet flavors when I have a sweet tooth. Takes care of it! Frozen fruit like blueberries and raspberries if I HAVE to eat something. Water, water, water! looking at an inspirational weight loss/exercise blog, gum and cinnamon altoids, brushing my teeth. These don't always work, mind you. haha. but sometimes!0
