LAYERS! Warm-up for about 10 minutes inside first -then head out. It's rough trying to get motivated, but it's always worth it!

If it's too cold OR too hot outside, I do my C25K on the treadmil.
  • I saw bear grylls get naked and do pushups in the snow once... ever since then I just go out anyway lol

Great Question!!!!!!!!! I'm in Fla...so YES I know I've got it lucky, but the past few winters have been unseasonably cold for us native Floridians and I hibernated...and it showed! So this year I'm determined to not let that happen. Thermal layers? Or does that trap the sweat and make it worse? Also I asked my friends up north to remind me that I'm being silly about going out in the cold considering their homes are buried in snow. Does rain down here though a lot so if peeps have suggestions on that!

I think that's the best running weather! :) It's all about the right clothing though! Layers are important! No cotton next to your skin or else your sweat will get cold and so will you. Go for a synthetic moisture-wicking long sleeve shirt or light weight wool shirt. Under armor or smartwool are great brands. If its windy a wind breaker is a good idea too, but usually I get super hot it those. On my legs I wear some long spandex (coldgear by under armor) usually with some running shorts over them if I'm self conscious of my butt jiggling :) if it's below 30 I wear a fleece head band around my ears and light gloves on my hands, but only if its really cold or else they get too hot! You want to be slightly cold when you go outside for your run because you'll quickly heat up.

Once you get moving, 50F is absolutely PERFECT running weather! That's shorts & tshirt.

20-40F is a zipper front fleece jacket with gloves, because my hands get cold, but I leave the jacket unzipped. Below 30, I like something to cover my ears.

Below 20 and I'm keeping my whiny butt inside.

It depends. Different parts of the country have different humidities. Which is ultimatly what dictates the comfort in this realm.

I live in Utah, and I just bundle with sweater, UA cold gear face mask, gloves, and UA cold gear leggins. I am perfectly warm.

But I couldnt do that in Maine, OR, etc.

If I had to pick one non negotiable. UA facemask. You cant get me to do anything outside without it in the winter.

I live in Texas--and the summer is the OPPOSITE problem...105 degrees is not ideal for motivating yourself to run.

So I do it on the treadmill. I like the treadmill better anyways---it times the intervals without you having to look at your watch all the time. And it helps me keep a constant speed so I can pace myself better. Treadmill all the way to 3 miles for this girl!
