My husband is telling me that when cooking with EVOO some of the fat cooks out so when I eat something that has been cooked in olive oil the fats that I am consuming are less than what is on the nutrition facts. The short of it is he is cooking potatoes that call for 3 TBS of EVOO for 7 servings to cook them. So when I am inputting in my diary am I supposed to say that I consumed in this case split into portions 1.5 servings of EVOO (because I am eating 3 servings)?? This makes a huge difference in my calorie count. We are short on groceries otherwise I would just eat something else this is all we have. Please help!!!

In absence of having any clue as to what you are talking about :
I agree with whatever you said.
Until your husband asks...
Then I'll agree with him.
Hope that helps. Unless it doesn't.0 -
The fat doesn't cook out. Some might be left behind in the pan. If not, you're eating it.0

Fat doesn't "cook out" of food just by cooking it in fat. There may be some oil left in the pan, but unless you weigh it before and after, you don't know how much is left. The difference between 1.5 and 3 tbs of oil is only 150 calories, so just be safe and count it all.0

Fat does not evaporate like water does (unless you are cooking very hot, way to hot for olive oil). Yes, there may be a little bit left in the pan, and a little bit may splatter out of the pan, but those amounts would be negligible at best. I would assume you are getting the full amount.0

WOW...what the heck? This is the OPPOSITE of K.I.S.S. If I had to go through all of that when following an eating plan, I probably would not have lost 100 lbs. Dang, just input what you PUT IN YOUR RECIPE. This stuff is NOT complicated. Your focus is on the wrong stuff.0 -

Thanks for being honest congrats on your 100 pound loss! I guess sometimes we feel the need to over complicate things.0 -
Dude she was asking a question. No reason to be rude. Its a valid question and maybe an answer will help her and maybe others who have wondered the same thing.
To the OP - I agree with the others. Go with your calculations. It better to overestimate than underestimate. And don't worry I too get caught up in the little things especially when measuring things out. Good luck and enjoy your meal!0 -

I guess you win, then.
But wait.... if he isn't on MFP... how will he ever know you won?0 -
