Help! The scale is ruining my life! :)

Hello everyone! After a year and a half I have finally met my goal weight of 130 pounds after a 134 pound weight loss. Yes, I creep below that sometimes, my lowest has been 128! (That was a good day) But I am an obsessive weigher! I weigh in the morning, the afternoon, and at night. If it goes up I feel happy, goes down like oh dang! So I need some help with this. I have read everything about how "there's no way you gaied two poiunds overnight". I know weight will go u and down. I'm very good with staying in my calorie limit, exercise is just a part of life now, and I made a LIFESTYLE change did NOT just go on a diet. So, I guess I am just afraid of gaining it back and everybody going see I told you so, she gained it back! Does anyone have any advice on the best way to stop weighing so much? Besides just not weighing! LOL Would love to see how others kicked the scale habit! Love to chat with people on here so feel free to send me a friend invite, I love the encouragement and to encourage others as well! Have a great day everyone!

When you want to weigh in, trying doing a little exercise or taking a walk. Something to take your mind off of it.0

My advice, Throw your scale away and let the mirrro be your guide.
People obsess over scales and I think the mirros works a lot better so when you gain 0.2lbs you won't freak out because in the mirror you can't see it.0 -
If you don't throw away the scale, box it up and put it in the attic.0

Perso when I am maintaining (until i get preggo .....again!!!) I donate every piece of clothing that is too big. If my pants are getting a bit tight, time to start counting calories for a week or 2. I go by my clothing and an what I asee in the mirror. I step on the scale about once a month.0

I had to give up my scales. Literally I gave them to a friend to keep at his house.
I set a maintenance RANGE rather than a hard number I freak out over.
And I read this. All the time http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero/ which reminds me that my scales are BS. Look in the mirror, how your clothes fit and your measurements.0 -
I used to be like that, so I started weening myself off. Try just morning and night for a week. Then just the morning. Then just every few days. What really helped for me was joining a group via this site that does a weekly weigh in. I felt excited and eager to know my number every day, but the suspense made me want to keep it a secret for myself until the OFFICIAL weigh in day. Now, no other day matters! Even if I have a sneak peak, I tell myself the only number that matters is the one on the official weigh in day.0

First off a HUGE congratulations!!! That is an amazing accomplishment. You are going to have to slowly wean yourself off of the scale, otherwise it can turn from obsession to eating disorder (yeah I know, harsh...but, that is what triggers mine-BUT not everyone!!!). Try once a day, then, every other day, then once a week...to maybe once every few months. If you are eating well and exercising, you are not going to gain back your weight. We fluctuate daily, water weight, hormones, etc... You just need to know that how you feel, and how your clothes fit is a much better indicator of your health than a number on the scale! You are gorgeous!! Enjoy your weight loss, and don't let the scale dictate your life. :flowerforyou:0

Thanks guys so much for the wonderful comments! It is kinda crazy how once your weight get's where you want it you become almost obsessive over it. But like you guys said I'm giving the scale to hubby to be hid in a spot he thinks I won't find it.0

i put mine in the cupboard - out of sigh out of mind, i went from weighing 6-7 times a day to once or twice a week.0

I am the same way! Mine is in the bathroom so it was like well I'm walking by it might as well weigh! But that's all over now! Hubby has hide it and I ain't looking for it!! LOL0

BTW...I am glad to know I wasn't the only one weighing in constantly!!0

I smashed mine to pieces a few years ago. I finally gave myself permission to buy one again, just last weekend actually. Smashing that scale was the best thing I could ever do for myself. Not to ignore or deny the number, because my weight is my weight, whether I see it on an LED light or not. But it was so good for my mind. And really, I find that when I do weigh, which was about once or twice a month, I stay within the same 3 pound range. In that, I was able to become comfortable with my body, listen to its cues. If I am extra hungry one day, eat responsibly and not worry. Our bodies are incredible machines.
I did contemplate giving my scale away instead of smashing it, because I hate the idea of ruining something that cost money. BUT, I didn't want to give someone a scale that caused me so much trauma in my own life. Smashing it really gave me that empowering feeling of being able to beat it. A number doesn't have to define me. And a number doesn't have to define you either.0 -
Some great advice here. I get obsessed with the scale too, even though I feel like measurements and clothes are a better indicator I still will obsessively weigh. So, I do not have a scale. My landlords have a scale so I weigh in once a week, better for me that way!
And, CONGRATULATIONS!0
