I have a tattoo on my hip bone basically, and it hasn't stretched much since I've gained weight (at lease it doesn't look like it, but I'm worried about what it'll look like once I've toned up? it's a decent size maybe 2 x 2 in. I just want to know what's happened to others tattoos and if they've become deformed or still look basically the same. Thanks!

I've lost about the 36lbs and my tattoo is about the same size as yours in the same general place, and it looks totally normal. I am young so I know the body recovers faster when you're young, and different bodies work differently. If you gain the majority of the weight in your hips then idk. I gain and lose weight fairly proportionally so I am pretty sure that might be a factor as well. If it doesn't look weird now that you have gained weight then you should be in the clear =)

If you gained weight and it looked fine I would think it would adjust okay. I've seen tons of tattoos on people who lost a lot of weight and the only thing I've ever noticed is that it shifts lol it moves to a different place on there body sometimes it's really significant. I wouldn't worry too much. I have mine on my ribs and nothing has happened to it 31 pounds later. Actually it looks BETTER than when I first got it!

Either way you're getting healthy =]
    Good Luck!
  • Unless you're planning on bodybuilding it wont make much difference. Women tend to gain muscle very gradually so it will be easy for you to see over time. I'm sure your tattoo will look absolutely fine
  • I have a tattoo that stretches from the top part of my right butt cheek to the top of my right shoulder, it curves over onto my ribs. I have another tattoo on my ribs that is probably a 2x3, one on my left shoulder probably a 6x8 and then a half sleeve on my right arm. None of mine have changed & I have battled my weight for the last 16 years, but my weight has only fluctuated about 30lbs. When I had my thyroid killed, I gained 30lbs in one month and the rapid weight gain did not change my tattoos at all. My thoughts are that toning will not change yours. I do use a lot of mosturizer, and I would definitely recommend that.

Thanks! I'm only 21 so I'm not too worried, and I'm not seriously overweight or anything, just wanting to tone. I guess I'm just worried since my boyfriend likes to tell me how awful tattoos look once they've become deformed (he hates tattoos to begin with so that might have something to do with it)

You'll be ok, I have 2 and they haven't shrunk at all or look different 1 is 10 yrs old so it's been through the up and down pounds. My MIL had several all over her body she passed at 62 and had them since her early twenties, the only one that even looked remotely off was a tattoo on her boob. I guess cause she lost them as she got older, but it didn't look horrible.
