My daughter just e-mailed me and wants the two of us to join Weight Watchers. Has anybody had any success with that program? Any input would be appreciated.

Its a really popular programme in the UK and lots of people like it. I didn't like the meetings as I found them stuffy and unhelpful but I am sure they will be different in the US. I think it depends how enthusiastic your local co-ordinator is. The programme itself is probably as effective or not as any other - the bottom line is that it has to work for you and feel right. No harm in giving it a go though - and going with your daughter will be much more fun0

It depends on you.
I did the online version which I loved cuz I don't do meetings. But I found I am getting the same results here just by counting my calories instead of counting my points. I guess the plus side of the online part is that they have an extensive list of foods/restaurants and its points.
You could always try it for a month and see if you like it. It took me 2 years to lose 50 lbs but only because I wasn't really exercising all that much.0 -
I've done it and lost the 10% they set the first goal for, but then lost steam and gained it all back. I went back a few times after that, but didn't get those results again because I wasn't ready and didn't follow the program. Simply attending the meetings won't make you lose weight, you have to track your food and count your points and I wasn't. Each time I'd just get tired of paying someone to weigh me knowing I hadn't done any work that week.
I'm tracking my food now and I'm having a lot of success, but for me, I get more from this forum and the exercise one I visit than I did from the meetings, and both are free so I don't see a reason to join again.
If knowing you are going to pay someone in a few days will keep you on track, and if you find a leader and group you REALLY click with, and you can afford it every week, then it may be helpful for you. If you've never done it, going through until they stop giving you new materials (I can't remember how many weeks the materials come for, but only a few months) and then leaving and following on your own if you don't click with the group or leader may work just as well as staying.0 -
I've done it and lost 50lbs but the meetings get boring and after a year I lost motivation and gained about 30lbs back. Now I am just counting calories and see how that works for me. The key thing is excercise and with 3 kids it is hard to find time or when I have the time I would rather relax. I am working on changing that part0

Thank you all for your replies. I think I will probably get just as much help and support from this website for free as I would joining Weight Watchers. I've been doing really well for the very short time I've been on here and the people great. Plus it's free here. :happy:0
