My Hummus Is Yummus

I just take garbanzo beans (a.k.a. chickpeas), some olive oil, a little lemon juice and some garlic and/or onions, red pepper or whatever spice you wanna put in there, and I run the whole shabang through my little zizzy thing that we got at Walgreen's. It's like not a food processor, it's like just this little chopper doohickey. But it does a pretty darned good job on pureeing stuff I must say. It was only like ten bucks. Anyways yeah pita wedges, celery, olives you name it, I dip in that stuff and it's awesome and fantastic for my blood sugar!

This is how I make my hummus as well and it is excellent!0

I don't even put oil or tahini in mine and it is fabulous!!!! i use garlic, jalepeno sauce, cilantro, a little salt, a little pepper and red bell pepper sometimes, and I use veggies to dip into it instead of bread, yummie! i love hummus.
I use my food processor I found off craigslist for 10 bucks, really decent one too, but before that I was using a blender.
I also buy my garbanzos in bulk, yummie! I have some cooking on the stove now, I can't wait;)0 -

I stalked Scapez here because of the title. Your hummus does sound yummus. Good on you for making it yourself. I need to not be so damned lazy and make it myself.0

It the thingy you got from Walgreens hard to clean?? I love hummus and i love to make some fast and easy. Also do you happen to know the real name of it?0
-
mmm i love hummus - also to that like tahini, peanut butter makes a good substitute.0

I think my home made hummus tastes a lot better than the stuff in the stores. My whole family loves it. Making it at home allows me to leave out the oil and all those extra calories.0

Came here for the title, leaving with awesome recipe and a reason to go to Walgreen's for a chopping doohickey.0

lol love the title0

I don't want to have to get a food processor either but was looking at food-chopper-do-hickie-thingies on Amazon the other day. Sounds like the Walgreen's one is even cheaper. Do you recall the name of it?0

Sounds great! I haven't made hummus because tahini is expensive, great to know I don't really need it :happy:0

Wonder if I can make it in my Chefmate mini chopper instead of having to dirty up my Black & decker food processor?
Do you think it can be made in this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51CHtf6BeoL._SS400_.jpg0 -
I HAVE to have tahini in my hummus! I make it at least twice a week and decorate a plate of it up with vegetables olive oil and paprika. To make it easy to figure calories, I calculate the whole recipe and then when I put it on the plate section up the hummus like pizza and decorate it with vegetables, then when I go to eat some I can just eat a portion off the plate and know exactly how much I had.0

If you go to an arab store, Tahini is not expensive at all. I once spent $7.00 for a small jar of tahini in a grocery store.. you can get the same jar for $3.00 at an Arab deli.0 -
I tried hummus last night for the first time and I liked it! So I am glad I found this post! Thank you.0

Just made this! So delicious! Next batch is going to be spinach, artichoke and peppers0

NOM everybody! All your ideas sound delish!
Anyways no - sorry I don't remember the actual name of my zizzy thingy. I think I found it in the As Seen On TV section, but they don't have it anymore. It pretty much just has a lid, a blade thingy, and then the main container to wash. Goes right in the dishwasher, holds about 2 C of stuff. Does great for onions, which would also be good in hummus wouldn't they? I just now thought of that. Thanks for all your input! I need to come on here more often, it's SO much more positive than Facebook! LOL0 -
Never had hummus, but am eager to try it.
I can say I have seen a chick pea, but have never had one. I'm also adding avocado to the list of things to try.
I'm a very picky eater so this big for me. It sounds delicious though!!
I bought a mini food processor at the grocery store. I think I paid 12 bucks for it at Hy-Vee and works great for small stuff. Most of the time I just use that when I need to finely chop a lot of garlic for a recipe, but it would be perfect for hummus.0 -
Love the title, but hummus is nothing without the tahini. Got to have that healthy fat!0

Avacados are your friend!!!! Gotta make some guacamole with 'em. NOM NOM NOM NOM :b0

I dont seem to like the consistency of my homemade hummus, but I might try again sometime. I just found that HyVee has their own brand of it now. I think it's going to be a go-to meal/snack for me. I eat it with crackers instead of pita to save a bit of the carbs.0
