I have the same problem. I only can drink enough water on the days I work out. I live in a cold climate, and do not sweat much unless I do a hard core workout. Plus I ate tons of fruit and veggies and soup and those things have high water content. probably I would be more thirsty if I eat more condensed food like lots of bread and stuff.
I do my best, but I stopped obsessing about it.0 -
Why do people think that only pure, neat water is water?
Here we go again!
You need the equivalent of 8 cups of water a day on average, from any source. These sources can be pure water/tea/coffee/juice/soda/milk/fruit/veg etc. It does NOT have to be pure neat water!

As for coffee being a diuretic, so many people just spout that word as a reason, without actually understanding what "diuretic" means.
di·u·ret·ic (d-rtk)
adj.
Tending to increase the discharge of urine.
n.
A substance or drug that tends to increase the discharge of urine.
Neat water is also a diuretic. The diuretic effect of caffeine is far, far outweighed by the actual water in the tea/coffee. Also, regular consumers of caffeinated beverages will build up a tolerance to said effect, eventually reaching the point where caffeinated drinks provide practically the same amount of hydration as a cup of neat water will.

Completely stolen off another MFP member who is frankly awesome.
Short answer is, as long as you are hydrated you don't have to drink water at all. You can in fact drink anything (maybe not bleach though). Just watch the calories.0 -
Just break it down, that's what I do.
I have a waterbottle that holds 23 ounces of water. That equals out to just short of three servings. My rule is I have to drink at leat 2 and a half of my water bottle a day before I get anything else. (not counting coffee. That is guarded with my life) I also keep my water bottle with me at all times. Even when I start to run some errends. When it's with you all the time, it's hard to forget it.0 -
I fill my water bottle ( 1 liter) every night and put it in the fridge, I drink the whole thing before lunch and fill it immediately after finishing. I sip it throughout the day,and carry it with me where ever I go. I drink about 3 of these a day.0

Tea and coffee counts toward your daily water intake, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. All you have to do is look at it logically. When you brew tea you pour in 6 ounces of water and add a tea bag. Essentially, tea and coffee are just flavored water. BUT, be sure to add them to your diary as they can affect your calorie counts (especially if you add sugar and cream so try not to).
Including tea has really helped me get my daily water intake up. I hate the taste of plain water. It is very hard for me to get that stuff down, but i can get through a couple pots of tea in a day. I keep a pot of tea and a teacup at my desk. The pot keeps the tea warmer for longer, and it keeps the tea within reach so I don't have to get up to brew some more.
When I work out I take a bottle of water with me and try to make sure I drink it all before I leave the gym. I also have a glass of water when I wake up and one when I go to bed.
If you make it a routine it makes things easier.0 -
I do Bikram yoga and run regularly, so I aim for a minimum of 12 to 15 glasses (8 oz.) per day and sometimes even that much isn't enough. Everyone has different needs.0
