I've been given the go-ahead to order either P90X or Insanity as a christmas present! Right now, I'm looking to kick myself out of a LONG plateau and losing my last 20 - 25 lbs. Given my circumstances, which workout do you think would benifit me most? I'd love to hear about your experience with either of these products. Thanks in advance!

  • I have done both P90X and Insanity. I like both, but Insanity was a lot tougher and more of a cardio workout. I just love Shaun T. I also have Shaun T.'s "Rockin Body" and love it (not as intense as Insanity, but a nice fun workout).

My disclaimer is... I haven't completed either program. :) I did get through week 10 of P90X with really great results, and I didn't beat myself up over not completing because I was SO burned out and sick of it. It is great, but the shortest workout, if you follow the plan, is an hour. I've used several of the Insanity DVDs, but have yet to go through the program.... but the calorie burn is much higher. I love Insanity because it takes less time and I feel completely spent in the end. It goes by quick, it's fast paced.

P90X... Tony talks a lot. From keeping track of my reps/exercises I would go off of my own sheets and listen to my own music and be done with it in a lot less time. Shaun T. hasn't gotten on my nerves... yet. :)

You can find a lot of the P90X workouts with descriptions of each exercise on some blogs out there. I (personally) would purchase the Insanity, if you are more looking to lose the weight and not get ripped. I borrowed the Insanity, and I bought my P90X off of ebay at about half the price... but some DVDs skipped pretty bad.

I have done both and had great results.. I prefer cardio, circuit type workouts.. so Insanity is my preference...
but if you want crazy long lean muscle definition go with p90x
  • If you are looking for something to supplement the running that you already do, I recommend the Insanity. Both are excellent and all of the above assessments of both are right on target.

I have not completed either but I have/use both regularly and I consider both of them amazing. I rotate between videos and do them randomly when I'm not going to gym/want to workout at home. But I don't follow the plan because I'm not very good with these things. Maybe someday .....some summer. When I have the time.

But honestly I consider insanity to be a better workout/calorie burner....so I'd go with that.....P90x if you have a lot of time and are arsed to buy those exercise equipment (which I didn't)! I usually stick to cardiox, yogax, kenpox and ab ripper x......

I have done both, and have done both at the same time because a complete program has both weight lifting and intense cardio.

That being said, I prefer P90X over Insanity simply because there's no weight lifting in Insanity (unless you could the push-ups and planks, but there's no real weight training like squats, deads, rows, etc is what I mean).

based on my sister's results, I'd say do p90x for strength training. Insanity is high cardio and some bodyweight/interval type stuff but assuming you already have some form of cardio you like you will get much better results from adding strength.

Also you are trying to break a plateau so adding a strength program is the right way to go.

have you looking into Chalean Extreme?

I tried p90x, but stopped after about 30 days, as just took too long.

I recently started with "Supreme 90" which I have been enjoying. It's quite a bit shorter, and it's nearly as intense. However, there are no pull ups in supreme 90.

Oh, and supreme 90 is 10 dvds, meal plan and chart, for about 20 bucks on amazon. (I got mine for 14, including shipping) So, it's a bargain. It's not as nicely produced, but the content is good.

I haven't done P90 because I don't have the weights they require in most of the videos. I'm currently doing Insanity and even though some days I just don't wanna do it, I love the videos. They are supportive, Shawn T is always pushing and I just like it overall as a workout.

I love the insanity workouts for cardio, better than P90x's plyo and kenpo. I replaced those and Yoga with the 3 main insanity workouts in my P90x regimen. So that way I still get the weight slinging too. I love it. Keeps it fresh, much better cardio!

    If you want lean: Insanity
    If you want muscle: P90x

What is the cardio like in Insanity? I have Turbo Fire which is mostly all kickboxing type workouts but I'm looking for something different...

insanity is a lot of cardio, though if you are already running, be warned that it is quite intense on the knees and high impact overall.
P90X is a total body workout product and uses a lot of weight and strength resistance exercises.

if you already have turbo fire I would look at doing a hybrid with P90X and keep running

The cardio in Insanity is mostly circuit training... squats, lunges, jumping etc... Is great because all you need is a mat- no equipment necessary AND it used your own body weight... would be suprised to see how quickly your legs, arms, abs & butt start to look/feel more toned!
