I was just curious if anyone does hooping for fun or for exercise. Someone posted a video of herself hooping on Facebook and I thought it looked like a lot of fun. If you do it, how did you get started?

Please don't make fun! :0)

I just was looking up hooping on here, and saw your post... I've had a weighted hoop for a few months, but could never keep it spinning!!!! Since I last tried it I have been doing Zumba and a Bellydance DVD... so I thought I would try it again...lo and behold... i can indeed keep it going now~! Last night I burned 418 calories for 29 mins of hooping per my bodybugg... it is SO AMAZING for the core!

I have a weighted hoop I got at canyon hoops...I added a little water to it, so it's probabaly about 2- 2.5 pounds.... DEFINATALLY try it! It's fun! :)

I k.ow you posted this a while ago but I was searching for hooping on the boards and found this I started hooping through a local Hoopnotica trainer that I knew. The hoops are weighted and give you a really fantastic work out. Plus they sell instructional DVDs. You can search hoopnotica on YouTube and find preview videos. It is a really fun way to get in shape! :)

I recently bought a collapsible weighted hoop from a friend who teaches a hooping class here in Halifax NS. I told myself I could totally do it at home, I don't need a class, but after a couple weeks of trying myself I found i might need a little instruction. I started a class 2 weeks ago and already with practice practical practice am the most advanced in my class. I can hoop in either direction (you must do both, or you'll only work out one side of your body!) with ease, I don't even remember which was my good and bad directions anymore.

Hooping is the fastest way to a 6 pack and burns anywhere from 400-600 calories in an hours work out.

I'm only a few weeks in and can already feel a change in my body. My abs are harder and I don't ever feel bloated anymore. I'm feeling more comfortable in my skin, but I haven't seen any weight decrease yet.

This is the only "work-out" that's works for me. It never actually feels like I'm working out, and it is so satisfying to learn tricks! I had my neighbor over the other day trying to show her how to hoop and she ended up begging to just watch me do double hoops! haha.

I hoop for fun and exercise as a supplement to my regular training program. I started by attending a "Hoop Fest for Fitness" and got hooked. There were over 100 of us on a football field learning to hoop! I have a weighted hoop (you can buy them in fitness stores, sporting goods stores or over the internet). Its also bigger than a hoop you would get in a toy store. There are some great workouts on You Tube that you can follow or just dance around. Great workout (I've burned as much as 300 calories in 30 mintues according to my HRM)! Warning...it can hurt starting out (bruses on you hips) and it takes a lot of room so its not a great indoor activity. I've broken a few lamps and knocked things down trying to hoop inside.
