If a lemon and a plum got married and had a baby...

Okay, as part of my new lifestyle, every time I am at the grocery store, I pick up a fruit or vegetable that I have never had before. Yesterday I picked up an apricot (never had them fresh, only dried and sweetened) and a lemon/plum fruit.

This lemon/plum thing looks like a lemon...it is yellow in color and is about the shape of a lemon, with the little nubbin at the end that most lemons have. The skin has the texture of a plum, and the flesh, while lighter in color than a traditional plum, tastes like a plum with a refreshing lemony citrus flavor. It was really good, and if you can find one at your grocery store I'd definitely pick one up...

Only problem is, there is no nutrition information available on this kind of fruit anywhere that I can find...I just put it in my food log as a plum, but I'm sure that the nutrients and calories and such might be a bit off due to the fact that it's half lemon...has anyone ever seen one of these? And do you have any idea what the nutrition information might be? Thanks! :flowerforyou:

???? a lemon and a plum could not be crossed. one is citrus, one is a stone fruit. what were they called at the supermarket? Plums come in many varieties ad colors, I bet it is a plum. they have pluots, which are crossed with apricots, that are lighter in color and have a different shape....

    I am at a loss to help-:embarassed:

I've had pluots before and this wasn't it...at the grocery store they were called lemon plums...and it's definitely got characteristics of lemons and characteristics of plums...so while I don't know the properties of each fruit and how/whether they can be crossed...I'm pretty sure this is a lemon and a plum combined somehow...

Have you ever tried a Grapple? We get them in our store periodically. Very expensive $6 to $8 for 4 of them. But it's a cross between a grape and an apple. Looks like an apple, but smells like a grape. And tastes more like a grape than an apple too.

I made the mistake of slicing one and sharing with the kids one time, and by the next morning, my other 3 were gone... :grumble: :grumble: :grumble: I don't mind sharing, but at that price... Jeez Louise!

    1. I saw the plums you're talking about at my safeway. they are definitely yellow plums, no lemon crossing going on:happy: - I asked the produce guy and he said they are sometimes called "lemon" plums, but that's just a name referring to the color and shape- they are aka yellow plums- he said they do have a different, lighter taste. yummy, and a healthy new taste to enjoy!

    However:cry:

    2. Grapple is an apple that has been soaked in/treated with artificial flavoring that imparts the "grape" smell and taste. it does not smell like or taste like REAL grapes, it smells and (kinda) tastes like grape jolly rancher. imho, apples should be made of sunshine, soil, water, and apple. no artificial flavoring for me in my fruit, thank you. the plastic clamshell packaging they are sold in has a list of "ingredients" b/c it has to:sick: . apples (again, imho) should not need an ingredient list.

I was raised on a farm and we had many fruit crosses, but they need to be the same kind of fruit (stone fruit, berry, etc.) in order to successfully be crossed.

OH NO...I've never tried a grapple but am glad you took time to explain it! I think the price more than anything kept me from getting any because they always seemed to come in a 4 pack here. But I'm quite sure I will pass on them now after hearing the TRUTH about Grapples:sad: :noway: YUCK...not yummy sounding AT ALL!

    From grapplefruits.com

Grāpple® brand apples begin either as Washington Extra Fancy Gala or Fuji Apples, depending upon the season. These "premium apples" are the ones that take on the grape flavor best. This Patent Pending process is complex and the ingredient mix primarily includes concentrated grape flavor and pure water. All ingredients are USDA and FDA approved and the process has been licensed by the Washington State Department of Agriculture.

There is nothing but flavor being infused into the apple. A relaxing bathing process prepares our apples for you or your kids. The apple takes on no additional sugars or calories. They are not genetically altered in any way. The apple is as healthy as ever but now has the new exciting grape flavor. The process is better explained by the Food Network's "Unwrapped" show entitled "Grapeful". Check your local listings or click here to find out the next time it is on in your area.

Apples are a fantastic snack. Grapes are a wonderful snack. Try a Grāpple® brand apple today, and enjoy the best of both of them in one!

I enjoyed them when we bought them. The kids enjoyed them too. I've bought them a few times and will continue to buy them. I'd like to see the food network show on how they are made, but it was a couple of years ago, so odds are that it won't be on again... Maybe youtube.

I bought three lemon plums the other day. Have eaten two. They are a little bland for my taste but do have a light/lemony taste. Would probably be really nice in the super hot months.

I just love the flavor of a regular plum and this was too muted for me.

    Interesting fruit though!!

LOL, I read this as: "there is no way we are gonna explain to you that we have soaked apples in artificial flavoring, so please refer to our infomercial where we say it more delicately.

Now I understand that there is artificial flavoring in lots of the foods we eat, and that's ok, but I just don't expect to find it in my apple. I tried the grapples, I thought they were candy-fake-tasting, and I won't buy them again.
