Fiber 1 bars? Are they GOOD for you? ???`

Just curious if anyone knows for sure if Fiber 1 bars are indeed good for you. I saw them advertised on The Biggest Loser and so I assume they are.
I usually go for the 100 calorie bar but not always. I also eat the Dark Chocolate and the Oats & Chocolate.
I am kind of concerned about the sugar. Yes, it has Whole Grain Rolled Oats, but the chocolate chips contain sugar.
I'll give you the info from the Oats & Chocolate:
Calories: 140
Fat: 3.5 (1.5 Saturated)
Sodium: 80mg
Carbs: 26g
Fiber 5g
Sugar: 13g
Sugars: 13g
Protein: 2g
Iron: 4%
What do you all think? Anyone else eat these?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

better than a chocolate bar, but I don't think any processed food is "healthy". Good for weight loss and healthy are 2 distinct things, and some products can be both (fruit and veggies) or one or the other.0
-
I eat them when I need more fiber, they're good but a little too sweet for me.0
-
I like the snackwells protein bars.0
-
They're a processed food product with added fiber. If they float your boat and fit in your calories, have at it. Very few foods are inherently "healthy" or "unhealthy" outside the context of your entire diet.0
-
I ate one today! But then realized while logging that the thing had 140 cals! For such a tiny bar? No more!0
-
I eat these all the time. They taste pretty good. Lots of sugars though.0
-
I eat those. I try not to eat them often, because like he^^ said, any processed food isnt good for you. I eat them when i get sweet cravings, or as a dessert or something. I dont eat it as a snack or anything like that. id rather eat fruit or veggies for snack rather than use calories or sugar for something like that in a snack0

A better question is probably are they better for me than (insert other snack you may eat instead). You should be able to lose weight just fine on them, but there are healthier items that you could eat - fruits, veggies, eggs, chicken, tuna, etc, but then, sometimes you just need some chocolate or something that feels more like a snack. This would be better than most candy bars, and is a suitable substitute for them.0

I would pass. Too processed for me. And as you mentioned, high in sugar (which is why they taste great). Don't be fooled that just because something is advertised on BL that it's healthy. Those companies pay big bucks to advertise on that show for the very reason we are having this discussion - it convinces people that it is a great weight loss product and people think it has BL stamp of approval and go buy it in mass. Hey, marketing works.
Instead, try getting your fiber from fruits, veggies and 100% whole grain oats. Oats in the bar are not bad for you, but steel cut oatmeal would be a better way to get your oats.
In general, I try not to eat processed stuff (says I who ate a frozen, processed microwave lunch AND had a piece of pie today - shame, shame!!!)0 -
I used to work for the company that manufactures these. They gave us free samples and on the day they handed them out, several people ate the whole box and some had to go home.
I had 3 bars and I definitely paid the price.0 -
I buy the 100 cal bars, and they usually all have quite a bit of sugar in them. As long as you're not eating like 3 a day, you should be fine. You could try making at home granola bars!0

Blegh I personally didnt like them at all.
They look good but ugh My stomach hurt soooooo bad & they werent filling at all.
If its fiber youre after make bean salad or have pears as snacks etc.,0 -
i eat the HECK out of those things!!!!
well... one a day, MAAAAAYBE two
there is almost a table spoon of sugar in each bar, but it is my opinion that the benefit from the fiber outweighs the sugar issue (;
also, the fiber one brownies are AMAAAAAZING!!!
less calories, and they make me feel like i am actually eating dessert!
90 calories
3g fat (1.5 sat.)
100mg soduim
18g carbs.
5g fiber
8g sugar
1g protein
4% dv. iron
be sure that you increase your water intake when you increase your fiber intake!
good luck!! :bigsmile:0 -
They're aren't "Good for you." but they aren't bad either. If you want more fiber in your diet you could try using whole wheat tortillas in place of bread. They have about 100 calories and some of them have 12 grams of fiber per tortilla! I make sandwiches out of them instead of bread which normally has 100 per slice and not nearly as much fiber.
-Oatmeal is also a good choice, it has about 150 calories per 1/2 cup serving. 1 cup of oatmeals offers a whopping 8 grams of fiber right there, and it is sugar free unless you add sugar. (I use natural sweetners.)
-Apples are also a good fiber source, a medium apple can have 5 grams of fiber and not a ton of calories, atleast apple sugar is natural. (under 100 calories.)
-Nuts! nuts have protein and they're good for you, they also have fiber but they are very high in fat so only have one or two servings.
- There are also a lot of healthy breakfast cereals, low in sugar and high in fiber out there. (Dont' get overly processed ones though and watch their sugar.)
All in all I think these are all better choices then fiber bars.

They can be a good snack, but as sidesteal said, limit yourself to no more than one a day. I ate two one day and was in the bathroom for...let's just say AWHILE. All that fiber will have the expected effect!0

Holy abs batman!! LOL Years ago when I was a dancer my abs were amazing. My belly is flat, but without definition... do you know a great ab workout or move that doesn't put stress on the lower back? I have a tri level spinal fusion in my lumbar region and regular sit ups are super painful.0

They are lower calorie candy bars with fake fiber added.0

I don't know the specifics of the nutrients, but I do like them. I like the 90 calorie Fudge Brownies the best. If I've been good all day, it's my treat at the end of the day. Or, if I'm going out grocery shopping, I take one along so that the hunger bug doesn't tempt me to buy something I'll regret later. It tastes good to me and is a nice filling snack. Of course getting fiber the natural way from fruits and veggies and such is better, but it's not always as satisfying and then I end up going back for something else. This way I feel like I've gotten a treat, which is what I want so then I'm satisfied. Hope this helps.0

I doubt it0

They do horrible, unmentionable things to my GI tract.
If I need to up my fiber, I like the La Tortilla high fiber tortillas for wraps/breakfast burritos. They are also full of protein and don't have all the sugar.0 -
FiberOne 90 cal bars (PB one)
Only has 5g of sugar.
My fave =]0 -
yum0

I eat the 90 calorie fiber one bars. My Fav is the Chocolate Peanut butter The sugar content in those is 5g.0

The question should be is it sugar or high fructose corn syrup? HFCS is the devil and I avoid anything that has that ingredient. I even read the label on bread to find the one wihout it. With that being said, you would be better off having cocoa roasted almonds (to hit that chocolate craving) or a piece of fruit. I struggle with the "healthy" vs "good for my weight loss" issue everyday. I strive for healthy that is also good for my weigh loss. Tricky, tricky subject. Good luck!0

They are super sweet... I do not personally like them, and yes they are processed but if they quell your urge for something sweet do it up! Like some said in earlier posts...make sure you drink lots of water or going to the bathroom could become a bad adventure.0
-
Too many preservatives for me. Also, they are too sweet for me. I prefer to add benefiber to my drinks or eat fiber tablets made by fiber choice. Good luck!0
-
I treat them like a dessert essentially.0
-
Define "good"?
Everyone has a different opinion on that. What's yours?
I like Fiber One bars. They fit nicely into my schedule. I take a whole box to work, throw them in my drawer, and when I'm running around like a crazy person and I don't have time to eat lunch, I wolf one down.
But then... I eat "evil" processed food all the time.0 -
73lbs wow! Congrats!!! How do you maintain?0
-
I don't know how good they are for me. But I keep one in my backpack at all times. Because if I am starving in between classes its either a snack bar I have in my backpack or a bag of chips from the vending machines.
If I have access to other foods such as veggies or fruit, I'd rather snack on that, but in a pinch, I'd love a fiber 1 bar.0
