Hello all! I had a goal set of 50 lbs down by christmas I did not make it:-( So now I am in FULL torture mode! I use weight lifting equiptment for 1 hour 10 minutes every morning then stair stepper for 20 minutes and then I come home do treadmill for 30 minutes and 100 crunches. I am eating 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day mainly fruits and veggie sandwichs from subway. Do you think it is possible to reach my goal by christmas of 15 pounds down?

It really depends how much you weigh now, and how much you care about doing it healthy and safely.

Drink 200 ounces of water a day and eat a can of tuna a day and I can guarantee that you will make it.

You will gain it all back and then some by Jan 15 though.

15 pounds by Christmas is about 4 pounds per week. Your ticker says you have 90 pounds to lose. 4 pounds might be doable the first week, but I don't know that you'd be able to maintain that rate of loss into weeks two and three. You also need to beware that you aren't netting so few calories (calories eaten - calories burned in exercise = net calories) that you aren't able to lose weight in the first place. It's a trap that many desperate people fall into: thinking that burning 1000 calories per day and eating the same amount will help them to lose weight faster. It doesn't usually work.

I don't think that sounds like a healthy goal, and I don't know that it is very reachable. I only say that because you would need to lose 3-5 pounds per week to be there by Christmas. Maybe 8-10 pounds would be a better goal. If you lose more it will be a bonus!

Possible, yes probably. But your low calories and excessive exercise are a big red flag. Slow and steady is the path to long term success. Quick and torturous is a often a setup for yo-yoing.

I have a total of 85 pounds left to loose. I am going to hire a trainer to help me maintain.

If you are only eating between 1,000-1,200 calories a day your body is going to go into starvation mode, and it will become more difficult to lose weight! You need to eat at least 1200-1400 calories. Believe it or not if you eat a little bit more (healthy foods), you will most likely see your weight loss increase.
  • Slow and steady wins the race everytime. I think you might be able to lose that amount of weight in a month since your ticker says you have 90 lbs. to lose; however, you need to make sure you eat enough to lose the weight the proper/healthy way. By losing the weight the healthy way, the slower/steadier way, you will be more likely to learn and attain a healthier lifestyle and keep the weight off. Just my opinion though...I'm in no way an expert of any type. Good luck with your loss. Merry Christmas!

Why would you want to torture yourself to meet some arbitrary deadline? Just be reasonable and consistent and you'll eventually reach your weight goal with a healthy mindset, great habits, and not a shred of torture to speak of.

question? How will I gain it back when typically I only eat this same amount of calories and walk 6 miles per day. I am just doing a little more weight lifting than what I normally do. I have been on a weight loss journey since august 12, 2011

if you don't already have a food scale, i would buy that first. $20-$30 at the store. remember, this is 80% nutrition, and you can lose a big chunk of weight from proper diet, not just restricting foods.

i'm all about goals, and i'm glad you have one. that being said, i'm feel like you might be setting your self up to not succeed. you should try and lower that goal by half, and if you go over that new goal, then great!!

^^ This. Do yourself the best favor you could ever do for yourself. Find a lifestyle that is healthy, sustainable, and manages your health goals, including your weight and fitness, for the rest of your life. Just keep track of your calories like a budget. Ingested and expended. Adjust in small increments. Work towards the goal everyday. Don't worry about when you achieve the goal, just work towards it.

Make the process the goal, rather than some number on the scale. Each day you stay with your process, you've met the goal. Doing this will bring success long term.
