Has anyone linked their myfitness account to their facebook account? If so, are you glad you did it? I'm debating doing this, but am not sure what to expect. I thought having my progress public might help motivate me, but I'm also concerned it may end up being discouraging. So I was wondering what other people experienced when doing that. Anyone?

I have not. I was sort of embarassed by my weight gain and didn't want many people I knew, especially old military friends, to see how big I had gotten. It's a little silly, I know, but I also viewed FB and MFP and seperate enitites with different goals and I try not to mix them. FB, for me, is for networking and keeping in contact with old friends. MFP is goal oriented. But as the months have roled by, I have eased up the seperation, having talked a little more about losing weight on FB and talking about other issues other than weight loss on MFP.

I have it linked so that when I lose weight, exercise, or complete my diary it posts a link to facebook. No one seems to mention it much, but when I get a WTG or something it does feel good. :)

I opted not to. It's too personal for me. This is my private battle, and I don't want everything that's in here out there.

I have not published it and for good reason. Some people just don't need to be in your business like that. The unfortunate part about it stems more from jealousy than anything. You have every right to be proud of your progress but some people are not.....their comments will show it. Facebook has a funny way of showing people up.....just my crazy thoughts...

Nope. I'm also of the mind that this is a different part of my life and I don't need family members or friends tracking my every failure or success as I go along.

I think it's so ironic some of us don't want to post this to our friends in real life because of the negative conontations, but we're more than happy to post to abnsolute strangers because we know they will support us. lol

Same here. Weirdly enough, I feel more comfortable sharing this experience with strangers that I meet through MFP rather than people that I know in real life. I guess it's because we're all united by a common goal or something to that effect.

I have my status updates and weight loss notifications on fb starting just recently.

I post them so that there are more people, some of whom I see on a weekly basis, to keep me accountable. I feel like the more people that know I'm trying to lose weight, the more I'll be motivated to show them that I'm losing weight, if that makes any sense at all. If it was just me keeping things to myself, I'd be more likely to go get fast food or skip a day at the gym because no one would notice.

I kind of want to keep my weight loss journey separate from my IRL friends and family. They can be helpful and supportive if they know you're losing weight, but at the same time they can also be nosy, judgmental, and making you feel like crap if you chose to have something other than a salad. lol

"Aren't you supposed to be on a diet?"
"That's got a lot of calories."
"Do you really think you need that?"

Not to mention all the unwanted and unsolicited "advice" on how best to lose weight. Thanks, but no thanks. lol Besides it will be a lot more fun when friends and family that haven't seen me in a long time see me smaller and it will be a total surprise to them!

I don't....but mainly because my real life friends suck lol just kidding.....I hate when my friends post non stop senseless crap on FB so I can't think of why I would want to post to FB everytime I eat, exercise, etc.

When I first started in January I posted on Facebook when I logged a cardio exercise. It really kept me motivated to work out, knowing that my friends would see it. I felt paranoid that if I didn't workout, someone would notice. I had a few months in the spring and summer that I quit working out and watching my diet, so I disabled the Facebook posting option. When I started back with MFP in September, I didn't feel I needed that kind of motivation anymore.

I have it set up with both facebook and twitter. I have been told numerous times that I have been an insperation and friends have joined MFP because of it. I have never had anyone say anything bad about it other then one person said I needed to take a break when i was working out hard core. I don't post when I completed my diary since they can't view it so really there is no point but they see my progress, and I even have progress pictures on FB which my trainer will show to new clients. I am proud of what I have accomplished and do not mind sharing it with others.

I have linked it, and have had no negative responses from my friends on Facebook. For me it is another level of accountability among people I actually know.

I've been thinking about doing it but I wasn't sure if it would show on MFP any links to my facebook. I am kind of paranoid about the whole entire world knowing info about me here AND knowing who I am in real life. Edited to add: But I would be happy to be sharing it with my fb friends and family since they love me and are supportive as well.
