Running clothes?

Anyone have any good suggestions for running in the cold? What is considered the best gear to wear in the winter?

Layers.
A wicking base layer, a warmer layer(s) and a jacket that blocks wind/water. You can get wicking layers fairly cheap at many places. The warmer layer doesn't have to be expensive either. You can buy warmer running jackets, but I just stick with my regular wind breaker style running jacket and layer under it. At first, I just started with hoodies and long sleeve running shirts but now am slowly building with good stuff.
I also invested in a pair of running tights last year. I avoided them because of how they looked, but had to borrow a pair during a race in the winter. They were so much better I don't care what I look like.
Hat and gloves/mitts. I don't have a fancy hat yet, just a regular toque. I use those cheap stretchy gloves most of the time, but have mittens for colder days.0 -
Depends how cold it is... my issue is that I tend to overdress (I hate being cold, but warm up on my runs, so need to dress for how I'll feel mid-run, rather than when I head out the door)! The most important thing is to wear wicking fabrics so there's no wet material next to your skin.
I find this tool helpful as the temperatures change in spring and fall: www.runnersworld.com/whattowear
You can enter the weather conditions and whether you like to feel warm, cool, or in between when you run and it make suggestions for what layers to put on. Hope it helps!0 -
When it is 40ish I wear a base layer of dri-fit to keep me dry, a second layer of thermal to keep warm and an outer layer windbreaker to keep the rain/wind out.0

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!0

If you run more than a mile, think to dress 20 degrees warmer than it is, as you will naturally warm up as you run.0

Wow - really? When it's in the 40's, I wear shorts and a long sleeve dri-fit T... I don't start layering until it's in the 30's (which is also when I'll put on capris instead of shorts). Just goes to show that this is an individual thing!0 -
I wear Pearl Izumi running tights when I'm cold. Although, I live on the West Coast so cold for me is balmy for others. :laugh:0
