running inside?

I have started the C25k program a couple of times, only to chicken out at about week 5. I would love to start running and be committed to it; I have heard so many great things about how good people feel after they run. The problem is that I can't run outside. We have some nice paths by our house, but, in short, my parents are worried for my safety and don't want me running outside. i think the fact that i had to run on the boring treadmill and look at the same thing over and over again was what made me quit. i can't stand it! is anyone here dealing with a similar situation? if so, what are your suggestions?

I can't run outside. I have steel rods in my spine and I need the support of the treadmill base to run at all. So, while I find the treadmill boring as heck - I would rather run on that than not at all.

The treadmill can be quite boring and doesn't really simulate outside running at all - but it is still a decent way to run.

That being said - if you REALLY want to run outside -- see if you can find someone who enjoys running too and run together. Safety in numbers. Or find a group of runners and see if you can join them.
  • I know how you feel - I don't really feel that safe running outside so I opt for the treadmill at the gym. I have just started the c25k program and up until now have done all my workouts in the group fitness rooms as I find the cardio machine a bore. The only thing I can do is download some cool music and listen while I am running. There is a good iphone app for the c25k where you can listen to your own music and it dings when it is time to change the pace. I do find the intervals of the c25k a bit more interesting than just running/walking for ages at the same pace. I don't think the treadmill is as challenging as an outdoor run though:(
