Hello lovelies,

So I've lost 43 pounds so far and I am noticing inch loss everywhere other than my calves and I've noticed that this is because my calf is pretty much solid muscle. I'm just looking for recommended exercises for elongating calf muscles. I know Yoga helps. Any other suggestions?

Can't "elongate" any muscles in the body. Your muscle insertions were set at birth. Unfortunately your are predisposed to genetics and should learn to love what body you've been dealt.

I thought my calves were solid muscle, too. But they eventually got slimmer just from losing weight. It may just be that your losses haven't caught up to your calves yet.

All I know is, mine were rock hard, but I couldn't get on boots that I'd fit into fine when I was smaller. And as I lost weight, I was again able to get those boots on comfortably. And my calves were still rock hard!

I meant as opposed to bulk them out with weight lifting.

Sigh. Yeah... that's what I was fearing. Never mind. x

You should be proud of your large gastrocnemious! Plenty of guys have such fledgling little bird legs and are envious of your genetics.

You also don't bulk on calorie deficit.

I also have large calf muscles, I presume from carrying around extra weight. I've lost about 1.5" off my calves even though they feel like they're made out of iron... And I've become stronger at the same time. I suspect you might see similar results. Though self image is the most important - many people think powerful looking calves are great!

This. I'm one of those guys. The darn things never grew no matter how much I exercised them.

Yeah, but most guys aren't trying to get into knee high boots are they!?

This is one of those "no fair" moments. Women want skinny calves and men want larger calves and genetics gave them to us backwards! lol

Ros -- Just keep losing and I'm sure you'll get into those boots. But in the meantime, there are websites that sell knee-high boots that specialize in larger sizes to fit over larger calves. Maybe check into that if you want to wear them right now.

I have big muscular calves too and no matter how much weight I lose, they never go anywhere! Now, I just embrace them...since I have no choice lol
