We were going to go to our church's Valentine's dinner tonight, invited family and friends to go with us and I even bought a new shirt. I asked politely what the menu was so I could plan according. Well, our little girl got sick and now we can't go and to make matters worse because I was upset I ate 7 pieces of chocolate. I know this sounds ridicolous but she is a special need little girl so when she is sick, it is pretty scary and my husband and I met at the church's Valentine's dinner 15 years ago. They even arranged child care and it was with somebody I totally trust so she could have been safe. We don't leave her very often.

I totally screwed up my calories today and am just so discouraged. I feel like I failed.

Don't worry about the calories. Tomorrow is a new day and your girl being safe and healthy is much more important than one day off track. Plus, its valentine's day and if you couldn't have your night out you at least deserved the chocolate.

    Breath in Amanda...........deep breath..........

You are disappointed and so you ate some chocolate. You are doing well other times, right? Must be cuz 14 pounds are gone. So take care of your little one , I am so sorry she is sick, and make a date with DH later tonight.

You are doing so good...........dont let one slip bring you down.

You didn't fail you had a set back! Also if you look at what you posted you said you ate because you were upset - Thats something that you need to work on so you don't fall into temptation because of emotional distress.

I don't know what you ate the rest of the day but I don't see how 7 chocolates would ruin your calories for the day.

Dont worry just have your own Valentines dinner at home.

    Hugs to you:flowerforyou:

Don't be so hard on yourself, sometimes these bumps in the road are so difficult to deal with. Today is definitely one of those days but rest assure tomorrow you have the opportunity to start all over again on the right track. We all have those days and that is why we are here for one another to help lift us up when we need it the most:heart:

Sending you warm wishes and very positive thoughts:heart:

Hugs to you! A bit of chocolate on one day isn't going to ruin your new lifestyle - it's a bit of chocolate every day that will! Forgive yourself! Take care of your girl and think of all the positives in your life. You and your hubby have eachother; it doesn't matter where you eat dinner as long as you're together. I know it sucks, but just try to make the best of the situation you're in.

Thanks everybdody, I do feel better. He went to town to get steak for dinner, I will have to eat a very small piece. I am making a big salad. Besides the chocolate I did very well today, but for every two pieces of chocolate there is 150 calories. Oh my goodness, tomorrow is a new and better day.

I didn't work-out for say, but I was outside in the snow all day pitchforking hay and manure in a trailer to move to the compost bin and bending over to pick up branches that were pruned of the fruit tree. Calories burnt, no idea.

I appreciate all of you because in the past I would have said, I screwed up and never got back on track but as of right now I am on track.

I am so hormonal! I totally watered up and cried after reading your post. Bless your heart! You've got a lot going on and anyone with half a heart or brain would tell you to take it easier on yourself. I'm sure you were really looking forward to your night out and now...well, that's part of being Mom. I can't even imagine how much harder it would be with a special needs child. So give yourself a break. Post-pone your night out. Schedule it (so it doesn't get forgotten) and have a plan. It can still be special. And you don't have to beat yourself up about a few chocolates. Better yet, if your that worried about the extra cals. Squeeze in a little exercise. God bless you. And keep on fighting.

It sounds like you're being waaaaayyyyy too hard on yourself!!! Not only do you come across as a terrific mom, but you have also lost 14 lbs!!! Enjoy you and your hubby spending time together... No matter where you two are. And I say kudos to you for taking care of your daughter. Tomorrow's another day, and think of this as an epiphany about emotional eating-we all have those days!!!

Sorry, about tonight but consider that you get to spend time with your family the people you love. Why not have a dinner date @ home? Dress up and enjoy your evening. Happy Valentine's DAY
  • Put in your time outside as gardening...at least it will give you back some of those calories in the exercise department and then your overall day won't look so bad to you:smile: !

Remember, this is a life change, there are going to be setbacks along the way, if this was easy we would have done it years ago, right?

Just be glad that you realized your mistake and let it go. You have to forgive yourself and love yourself:love: ! Then you can move forward, tomorrow is a brand new day!

Looks like you are already back on track with your special V day dinner planned! You are doing GREAT!!!:drinker:

God bless you and your hubby. May the Lord get rid of the illness of your little girl right away! Don't beat yourself up. Forgive yourself the way God forgives us so much. This is what we want our children to do for themselves also, no beating up, forgiveness. Plus it will be erased in likely 7 days of eating right and some exercise. so nice the way any of sort exercise gives us extra calories to consume.

Steak and salad sound soooo good! Just eat a small bit of steak (no bigger than your palm) and fill up on salad with sensible dressing! Oh and don't forget to wear that new shirt and light some candles! ooh la la!

Me too!!! You are giving me ideas for tonight...
  • Please, please don't cry over having a bad food day. We need those now and again. Plus, it's Valentine's Day...so that pretty much justifies chocolate overload! Dry your tears, girl. On another note, I wish your daughter well. :flowerforyou:

Hang in there Amanda. The chocolate is not a problem - getting your child well is the most important thing..

You get to eat chocolate once in a while - especially when stressed.. janiebeth

I am so truly amazed at the love and support people get on here and tonight I am that person. Thank you so much. Dh brought home strawberries with cool whip free whipped topping. YUMMY! I am in my pjs though because I do not want my new shirt to be thrown up on. I feel so bad for her, I have no idea exactly what hurts even though she is four she is completely non-verbal and has no hand use to point to what hurts. I am pretty sure her head hurts because she is banging it, I think her throat hurts because she refuses to drink and swallow. Her fever is high and she is very out of it. Thankfully it has not set off her seizures yet, they are controlled with additional medicine.

    Please pray for her!!!!!

You guys are the best!!!!!!!!!

I know you are very disappointed and feel that you missed an opportunity you can not recreate, however, I would suggest that you look for an opportunity in the near future when your daughter is feeling better to spend time with each other as a belated valentine? Just a thought
  • I just want to say your daughter has an amazing mom! I know its hard sometimes when you get plans cancelled but nothing compares to taking the best care you can of your children. Celebrating the love between you and your husband can be done any day of the year so tonight just enjoy your steak, salad and those delish strawberries in the loving arms of your husband. Everything will look so much better when your little angel is feeling well again.
Have a beautiful Valentienes Day :flowerforyou:  :flowerforyou:

I have a special needs child also, 3.5 yrs old boy and my oldest son is 4 years old..They both went thru bad coughs with vomiting, fevers and inner ear infections. Do you every use "Fever All", generic Tylenol suppositories double check the dose/ they sell infant and toddler ones per age and weight of the child . They work really fast on getting he fever down.. made for vomiting children. Call your Pharmacist ahead to make sure they carry them. Also put her in a tepid bath to get her temp down. God bless you all and enjoy that little Valentine in your arms. We can never get that time back. A little indulgence with the chocolate won't hurt you... especially because you gained control and your back on track. You have a very stressful busy life. Take one day at a time. You're an Angel! Happy Valentines Day! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
