Counting walking the dog?

Personally I don't count it. I've walked my 2 labs everyday for about the last 3 years so I consider it part of my daily activities. We go about 1 mile and the walk lasts 20-25 minutes. I think it depends on how vigorous the walk is. My walks are more for them than for me (i.e. slow and lazy).

    I count it!

My dog is seriously crazy when it comes to going for a walk, it's not me walking him, it's him giving me a run (more like dragging me down the street!) He's damn strong and I can barely keep up.
No wonder my partner's usually the one who takes him out!

awesome that you rescued a pup! I count walking my fuzzmuffins because i take all 3 at once and they pull....a lot. We go at a jog most times. Rogue is 63lbs, HarleyQuinn is 52lbs, and Parker is 47lbs. I only weigh 110 so it's like an olympic sport, haha.
  • I for sure count it!

2year olds are great btw! I really don't get why people get puppies, train them, then "get rid" of them. Whatever. If I can get one, I'm not complaining! My last dog was 2 or 3 when I got him from the SPCA. He was house broken and he knew real tricks! BEST dog ever!

:( makes me sad....my girl was 2 when we adopted her last year and she was housebroken but couldn't really relate for a while. She still has pretty bad separation anxiety that I haven't been able to fully break...

It's great that you rescued a doggie, they are the best! I always find it weird when people I meet on the street are like "oh, you are so amazing for rescuing a dog" I mean, I understand their point but it makes me uncomfortable...I am SO MUCH HAPPIER to have Cinnamon in my life that it's not like I "did" anything deserving of praise, I'm much more grateful to have her than anything else....I don't know what I would have done without her! haha sorry for the mini-rant, just I never know what to say to that lol...

Dixie and I are still getting to know each other...she doesn't act towards me like she would act around her foster mother, but I hope we'll get there. She's really quite sweet, if a stubborn handful at times. I'm hoping we get settled in with some love and affection soon!

I absolutely count it. I have the laziest greyhound ever, and I make him walk 2.25 miles with me at around 4mph, so it's definitely exercise - for both of us. By the time we get home, I'm ready to keep going, but he's exhausted. You'd think for a racing dog, he'd have a bit more energy.

I do know what you mean about just being grateful and it taking a bit of time. We did have some problems with separation anxiety for a while. I discovered, after going through a few, what kind of kennel he liked. It takes a bit of time to get in sync, not unlike any relationship, and he really can’t know how committed you are to making things work. He has experience and, unfortunately, he can’t talk about it. You just figure it out as you go and his “stuff” becomes your “stuff”. You learn that, for whatever reason, you have to stop so he can howl at police cars with sirens on, all trees must be investigated and LEAVE the ½ chewed knuckle bones where you found them. It took me more than a year to convince him he could sit on the couch. He was never completely comfortable there but he’d snuggle when asked… My boy was one of the best things that ever happened to me and he’s been gone for a few years now and not a day goes by that he’s not in my mind.

Like you, I take no credit for saving him. He saved me.

My husband and I walk our dogs every night. I count it. We walk a mile, and it takes us 20 minutes. 15 if we are yapping and complaining about our day. LOL!
