Beans! Vegetable spring rolls from your local Chinese restaurant, raisins, nuts, lean meats if you're an omnivore.

I always choose a cereal that is high in iron. It's the only way I can hit the 100 mark.
  • I have a blood disorder and have just spoke to my consultant about this....
Apricots, fruits, nuts, chicken, eggs, dark meat, spinach, leafy things... wholemeal bread, wholeweat pasta...
    Hope this helps...

Everyone's got the right idea -- get it from food. Avoid iron pills unless the doc recommends it. Overdoing it with pills can cause a variety of issues.

Dark leafy greens, nuts, seeds, beans and my favorite, cacao (I have it in the form of dark chocolate).

I have a tendency to be Iron Deficient at times. So I take iron supplements to make sure I get enough.
You do get iron from eating chicken, fish, egg yolks and red meat. Dark green, leafy vegetables such as chard; kale; spinach; endive; and mustard, collard and turnip greens. High-iron snacks like dried fruits such as prunes, apricots, dates, figs, peaches and raisins. Eat iron-rich foods in combination with foods that are high in vitamin C to better absorb the iron. I eat spinach salad with orange slices or eggs with grapefruit. Broccoli and bok choy are high in both iron and vitamin C.
  • Also, note that the foods you track sometimes don't list the iron that is in them. I've noticed this quite a bit. You may enter a food that is a decent source of iron and no value is given for the iron.

most animal products besides milk, beans, chickpeas, dark and leafy greens (spring mix salad, spinach, dandelions, anything but iceberg and romaine!)

This is really true. I'm having homemade steak beef burgers today and the mfp has no info on the Iron. Find an online article that tells you about good sources and then you decide whether you need to eat more as if you end up taking too much thats not good as well.

This is a southern thing but I've been told fried chicken livers is a good source of iron. I have to eat them smothered in gravy to tolerate the taste though.

If you take a protein powder everyday, you could look at switching to one with a higher iron content. I use one that is whole food based and and has 22% of the recommended daily intake.
  • Thank you everyone, I will keep an eye on that and stick to my reg multi vitamin as well as incorporating some better foods, I have been eating alot of whole wheat breads and chicken also .
