My scale hates me!

Why does my scale hate me!??! I've been really good all week (under calories by about 100 each night and working out), but the number on the scale went up. I can deal with staying the same, but UP?!?!?!

What the deuce?!

  • Totally feel your pain, had the same thing happen to me this morning. At the point right now where I just want to crawl under my desk and cry.
  • Could be you're gaining muscle, which weighs more than fat.

Maybe a good deuce is what you need to make it go down? :-)

No it doesn't. It's just more dense than fat.

High sodium intake one or more days maybe?? Are you taking measurements? Maybe you're still losing inches, but its not showing on the scale (sometimes I cycle between inches and pounds dropping, but not both at the same time for some reason).

As women, sometimes we just retain water certain times of the month for hormanal reason (not necessarily "that" time of month either). Don't stress out over one week...sometimes you just don't lose. Hang in there...if you're sticking with it, the loss will show up eventually.

Could be retaining more water in your muscle due to workouts. Could be a number of things. What does your mirror say? That speaks more volumes than the scale. You can have two people at the same height and weight, but one could look Wayyyyyy better than the other due to more muscle on their frame as opposed to fat. The person will have a smaller frame and be the same weight as the fat person due to muscle being more dense than fat.

JUST USE A MIRROR. It's a better way to tell. That's what you care about more anyway right? How you look.... The scale just gives you a number.

Weight is a funny thing. It goes up and down for all kinds of silly reasons. Pissing you off may be one. Pay attention to the overall trends long-term or don't weigh yourself as often.

NEITHER is. a pound equals a pound. one pound of muscle = one pound of fat in terms of weight. muscle is simply more compact than fat, and thus takes up less space. a person can weigh the same 150 pounds, and look very different because of body composition.

Depends on the volume of each material you are discussing. :)

LMAO! but so true. When I'm backed up I weigh more. Might be time for a good release (so to speak).

It also might be water weight. I find my weigh fluctuates by a pound or two depending on how much salt I take in.

I'm not sure, maybe water, but I do know which one tastes better

Muscle is heavier when weighing the same volumes. What I can find is Muscle density is = 1.06 kg/liter, Water = 1kg/liter, and Fat = 0.9kg/liter... So muscle is the heaviest in terms of equal volumes:)

  • Maybe you should try to meet your calorie goal instead of staying under..i know for me i work out alot and I wasn't seeing a lose at all..i then noticed i wasn't eating enough to balance out how much I was putting out so I ate all of my calories even a little more and that's seen good so far...The more you kick out..The more u gotta put back in:)
