edited October 5 in Introduce Yourself
Signed up yesterday and forgot to introduce myself. Hi I'm Michaelle but answer to Shell. I'm a 41 yo mom of 3 (18,15 and 5) happily married to my husband of 16 years and an Air Force spouse. Recently diagnosted with insulin resistance and it has scared me into doing something about my weight that has steadily creepy up in the last few years. What can I say like to eat hate to exercise. This is my year to become a better person and get healthier for me, myself and my family.

Looking for buddies for support and motivation. we can do this.

    Hi Shell,

You can add me if you'd like. I'm in Virginia, 42, and I've been at this for a while. We all need friends and no one likes exercise in the beginning. Everyone can walk...start with something and then add to it. :) Good luck!

Hi Shell, welcome to myfitnesspal! You can add me as a friend as well. The best way to naturally reduce insulin resistance as you already may know is diet and exercise...essentially shedding the lbs and allowing our pancreas and endocrine cells to function better. I'm sure if you stay consistent with your plan on here you'll reach your goal. If you don't like exercising walking is the best way to get some sort of physical activity without straining yourself. Did you know women who walk 20 mins a day 3/week can reduce their risk of breast cancer by 50%? Walking also significantly helps to reduce blood sugar and the risk of developing diabetes which is clearly a goal for you. If you do nothing else I'd recommend to at least start walking few times a week around your neighborhood or on a threadmill. After a few weeks you won't have to force yourself to go walking anymore, you'll want to and that's the best feeling ever. I myself love strength training and lifting weights...along with occasional cardio to mix things up.

I haven't been too active on the forum, but I'm a 26 year guy and a medical student from Houston, TX. Ironically, even though I'm in the medical field and have learned everything about human physiology and the detrimental effects of weight gain and obesity I somehow found myself 75 lbs overweight! I realized it's time to stop trying fad diets and doing things the realistic way. I've lost 6 lbs so far(weighed in today and lost 2 lbs!) so definitely excited about that. I had some weeks where I overate and I didn't track(and I'm sure it happens to a lot of us) so don't give up if you have a bad week. Just start over the next day as if nothing happened, stay focused and remember your end goal is worth it. All the best.
