Exercise and Work question

Just wondering if on crazy busy days at work (I am a nurse), should I be adding in exercise in lieu of it.
Like normally I walk around for 6-7 hours, stand for 2-3 hours and sit for 2 or so. But yesturday and today, I didn't even think of sitting until 5pm (so ten hours later). And most of those ten hours were spent walking briskly.
So should I account for this extra busyness or is it just included in my everyday activity?

Bump! That is a good question and I'm interested in the answers. I've often wondered the same thing when I've had busy days.0

If you break a sweat and you bump that heart up to fat burning speed then yes.
By now you are used to what you do on a daily basis so chalk it up to NEAT!0 -

I would invest in a nice HRM and pedometer, since you have such an active worklife. Try to figure out what you average (calories burned) at work, and then only add in exercise when you are 2 standard deviations about that average.0 -

Since you are doing the same thing each day your body gets used to it, I would do some exercise at least 3-4 times a week for half an hour at least. The body starts to burn after 20 minutes so maybe you can do some cardio with weight lifting. Otherwise if you eat healthy that is already 70-80% of your diet and only the rest the workout part of it.

Oh I already work out on the days I don't work a day shift. I am usually far too exhausted after days. Mostly mentally exhausted.
And not all my shifts are the same. If a patient is very sick, I could easily end up doing hours of cpr. If I have a big patient its lots of lifting, if I'm in charge its literally running around the unit. So it depends. And I find there are days I'm just so much more tired than usual. I also eat more because I'm starving.
It would be interesting to see what I walk on an average shift compared to a busy one. And nights compared to days. I guess that adds to the pro colomn of a HRM
*a huge part of the reason I ask, is because I'm fairly fit - play hockey, train for triathlons and have done half marathon recently - but I feel more exhausted after some days at work, than some training days *0
