Just wondering who uses the extra calories they burned during exercise as an “excuse” or if it makes them feel “allowed” to eat more.. ??? I will burn my calories but still stick to my daily goal post extra calories!! Just wondering what others do!!!

I eat back my exercise calories, and the days i do lots, i get to have special snacks those evenings at times, or something i wouldn't normally have on a non-exercise day...
My exercise of choice is jogging, 4 times a week, for 35-40 minutes.0 -
I actually have this question about what is best. I don't know if i should be eating my burned calories or not. I know i definitely probably need to eat at least some of them... because my workouts are vigorous and long. But I don't know if i am justified in eating them all. What does everyone think?
HELP!!!!0 -
Itry not to eat my exercises calories.. but almost always do...0

I'm a little confused about this too. For example, this morning I burned over 700 calories, which puts me "calorie goal" at about 2000...I have a hard time getting to the number, so I've been eating about half of the calories back. i'd like to know what is best though!0

Im new to the site - but i wasn't planning on eating my exercise calories, unless i feel like have a cheat meal or something.
I don't see any reason why it would be particularly bad for you to not use them - unless you are trying to build muscle you don't really need the extra insulin. I've heard people on the site say that your body will go into 'storage mode' if you don't use them - but that isn't true, glycogen and adipose are your bodies storage forms of energy and your body will not choose to make them unless you are in a high glucose state.
Like the above posters said i think ill just save them on certain days if i feel like splurging0 -
I know a lot of people do, I personally don't anymore..and have noticed some changes..so I'm sticking to it!:happy:0

I firmly believe that if I didn't eat my exercise calories all along, I would have quit in the first month.
Eating a little bit more than I thought I was supposed to eat while "dieting" was the missing link for me. Plus, it's really awesome to never feel hungry or deprived, and still get the results I wanted.0 -
You have to eat your calories or you'll burn out. I try to eat about 2/3 of mine just to err on the side of caution.0

MFP is set up to give you a calorie deficit before you exercise.
This means that when you exercise you get to eat more and you still have the SAME calorie deficit and will lose weight (assuming you are logging your food and exercise accurately and you have your goals set up right for you!)
No one is going to force you to eat them, but I don't see the point in depriving yourself when it's not necessary.
Edited to add: it's worked for me!0 -
i dont eat back my excercise calories,
simply beacuse im not hungry, and no i dont get burnt out, i just dont feel like eating after working out.
but if i am i will eat somehting im not about to starve myself lol0 -
If I am hungry, I eat more. If I feel like I need energy, I eat more. If I feel fine and I am not hungry, then I don't eat more.
I think it is less about eating or not eating your exercise calories, and more about figuring out what your body needs and what works for you. If you are exercising away a LOT of calories, I would think that it would be necessary to eat more since you need more fuel in your body.0 -
I eat most of them back. I have a 1240 calorie daily goal and I go to the gym 4x a week. Being able to eat a little more those days is what is making this feel more like something I can do for life, not just until I'm at my goal weight.0

I listen to my body foremost, but I try to stay within a 1000-500 cal deficit from my maintain cals. I eat at least my BMR and try to fill my calories with nutrient rich foods.. note that I said TRY0
