Is NOT brushing your hair bad???

My hair turns into a knotted mess if I don't brush it out often. You are lucky!0

I like it when people brush my hair...
Me too! This weekend my niece (13 yrs old) was over and wanted to practice braiding. She brushed and braided my hair for over an hour. Heaven!0 -
If I didn't brush my hair, I would have homeless-type dreads after a day.
Hahah..me too!!!0 -
I don't brush my hair.0

that's an odd question for a dr to ask. I brush when I style and that's it for the day or two.0

I never brush/comb the hair on my back. NEVER.0

I don't brush my hair unless I am styling it on the weekend or something, otherwise it doesn't really tangle and stays healthy. I use just a small drop of trader joe's shampoo and a few drops of oil in it as it's drying.0

 I just think your doctor might've been admiring your hair and has a sense of humor.
That was my first thought too.0 -
I think it's odd the Dr asked you that....
I've had long hair my whole life. I only brush it when I blow dry it out which is rare, otherwise run my fingers through after showering and that's it. I have brushed combed my hair when wet... I have healthy hair, always have. Wouldn't worry about
the don't brush wet hair advice - unless you have damaged unhealthy hair. If that were true I don't think my hairdresser would brush/comb my wet hair and she always does and my hair is not damaged.0 -
I comb my conditioner through and that's it. I just realised while reading this thread that I moved out of home 6 years ago and never bought myself a brush. So it's been 6 years since I brushed my hair!! I've had long and short hair in that time and a quick run through with my fingers was really all it needed. I also don't wash it very often (well.. more so now that I'm exercising hardcore cos it goes yuck) usually once every two or three days?? When I wasn't exercising I could go a week no problems.0

I've got hair down to my thighs almost and I'll go days without combing...however, my hair is thin and fine and it does tangle easily so I do have to eventually comb it but if you don't have to comb your hair then I don't see the point to do so.
I would also guess that she's just joking.0 -
I rarely brush my hair either, it looks much nicer when left alone. I asked my hairdresser if I should be brushing it, and she said as long as it doesn't start tangling, it's fine0

I had a girlfriend that had hair down to her ankles unbound. The only time it got combed was once a week when they un-braided it. She and her husband would wash it in the shower, and with the conditioner in they would re-braid it with the water rinsing the conditioner through it. Her braid was as at least 7 inches thick, very dark brown and super shiny. Oh yeah, she was 6 foot tall. That was a lot of hair! After a neck injury in a car accident she had it cut off and donated it to locks of love.0

i never brush my hair. i comb it once in a while but i normally just run my fingers through it to get the tangles out.
FYI, i have insanely curly hair...if i brush it, it's just....well, not good. i look like Scary Spice. or Gilda Radner as Roseanne Rosannadanna from SNL.0 -
I doubt it... I never brush my hair but it doesn't tangle either. I found when I used to brush it that I got split ends way too easy. Now I can go about 6 months without needing a trim.0

I'm so glad I read this thread! I have very long hair, and am a scuba diver, so my hair is always tangling up. I use a lot of conditioner to get the tangles out, and brush while it's wet. I have split ends that would rival Frankenstein's Bride and always tossed it aside as a symptom of my hypothyroidism. I'm going to start using a comb now (I don't own one yet) in lieu of the brush and wait until it's dry before I touch it.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Oh, and yes, I agree that I think the doctor was being female and displaying envy over your lucsious locks. :laugh:0 -
My 5 1/2yr old niece's new favourite thing is brushing and styling my hair when we hang out, I love it!I like it when people brush my hair...

I never brush my hair. I use conditioner in the shower and once my hair is dry, running my fingers through it is enough. My hair rarely ever gets tangled but I like to braid my hair at night to prevent it from getting tangled too. And it keeps my oily hair off my neck while I sleep.
But what I don't understand is how brushing your hair has anything to do with your physical health! I've had my hairdresser ask me that, but never my doctor!
Edit: I haven't used a brush in forever! And when I'm going out to a special dinner or something for a holiday I'll run a pick through my hair because it's curly but never brush. It ruins my curls haha!0 -
I have very long hair and I rarely brush mine either. Mine is quite thick (both the strands are thick and I have a lot of hair). I occasionally brush or comb after a shower, sometimes I do not. My hair doesn't tangle much and is shiny and nice, even though we have hard well water. I do usually need to bush after surfing and if it's been an especially crazy day I will use detangler (salt water makes my hair all stick together and get funny from the salt haha). If I've been mountain biking and pulling a full face helmet on and off a sweaty head that is collecting dirt all day long then I usually need to brush it before or after washing as well. I assume since my hair is healthy that it is perfectly happy to not be brushed! My non-tangly hair is also great for when my niece is practicing her brushing, braiding, and other styling skills haha!0

Your doctor asked because it is part of your general hygiene. You need to make sure you don't have animals living in it.0

Urgh! I hate anyone touching my hair! Absolutely hate it. It completely freaks me out.0
