My dad used to have a little stand type thing that he could lock his back wheel of his bike into to lift it off the ground so that it could be used stationary. It had different resistances too.

Do you know what it is called?

TIA

I think you mean a stationary bike mount. Might be called a bunch of other things to but if you google that it should get you on your way!

If you are going to use it alot you might want to consider getting an exercise bike. Those trainer things wear down your bike tires. Exercise bikes are also alot more stable.

Ah, interesting to hear that they aren't too good for you tyres, I was wondering about getting one for winter exercise (next year).
I think I've seen them in the TBE bike shops in Osborne Park/Belmont etc. Most others probably have them too.

Most people who ride indoor trainers put a slick tire (or even a special tire for trainers) on the rear. I learned this when I bought a mag trainer for my MTB. Knobby tires on the trainer make for a half-hour of RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I was younger and dumber then.
