Does any body else suffer from colsores? I have always suffered from them very badly, a few at a time making my whole mouth swell up, not only does this make me want to hide away, i loose all confidence and motivation to exercise and eat healthy. Does anybody else suffer from them? What do you do to get yourself back feeling right and rid of them as fast as possible?
I have a few appearing now and its really really not what I want as its christmas, my favourite time of year :( x

  • I completely sympathise. I am prone to coldsores too. I get about 3 a year. I can always tell when i'm going to get them though, when I am unwell or run down they appear a few days later. I tend to leave mine. They are horrible but they go in about 5-7 days if I leave them alone. If I use ointments and stuff it still takes about the same time so I don't bother.

I read someone that putting ice directly on the area as soon as you feel them coming helps prevent them. There is no real cure for coldsores though unfortunately. I know I get mine when i'm unwell or tired like I said, so maybe making sure you do keep up with the healthy eating and exercise might help you have them less frequently as you will have more energy and generally be healthier to fight them off.

I've heard that if you take the vitamin Lysine it can prevent the coldsore. I've taken it when I get a cold sore and I know that it lessens the amount of time I have it. I usually get one in the winter.

    This is what I read:

    Surprising Uses for Lysine
When you feel a cold sore or a herpes sore starting, take Lysine immediately. It may stop it in its tracks. Repeat the dosage at night and in the morning.

My daughter suffers horribly from cold sores...she has 2 prescriptions for them..one is a cream to put on the cold sore to help shrink it, the other is an anti-viral pill that she takes when she starts to feel one coming...the pill helps to control a major outbreak and stops them from becoming huge....

Go to your dr, there is help out there, you don't need to suffer

Yes Lysine is one of the best things - compeed work quite well if you get to it early enough. I had a bad outbreak last week and although I kept up the exercise - eating was a nightmare!!! I also keep lip balm on at all times (with the sunscreen in it) (not putting it on was the cause of me getting my last one)

I get capsules from the health food store called L-Lysine. They are 1000mg. Take 2 right away when you feel one starting and one a day until it's gone. If you catch it right away it will never come out.
