Going out tomorrow night

If I drink it is usually diet 7 up and Crown Royal. Is this a good choice? I think around 96 cal per shot. How does alcohol affect weight loss? Is it just the calories that affect it or is it something chemical? My husband is Fire Chief and it is their Christmas Party.
