How irresponsible can you be???
The cutest little jack russell terrier wandered into our yard today. He has several tags but none with a working number. I even called the number on the "Home Again" pet recovery tag. The ID# is good but the owner never filled out the required paperwork! Why even bother having the microchip placed if you aren't going to send in the paperwork? Geesh. So I called the animal control and they only come out for mean aggressive dogs and emergencies on the weekend. I already have 5 dogs so I can't keep him. So we did the next best thing. We put him in the pet carrier with food and water and pet bed until tomorrow when the animal control will come out. I really hate irresponsible pet owners!!!!

That's dreadful! All our animals are chipped and even our cat wears a tag (as our local vet doesn't have microchip scanning facilities). Maybe the scare of him going missing will wake the owners up. They should feel lucky it was someone as considerate as you who found him0

I wish someone had kept girl a few days before bringing her to animal control.
She was in the back yard for no more than 5 minute when I ran inside to go to the bathroom. When I returned her collar was stuck on the fence...right where she had dug a hole.
I had to go thru the house to the road and she was gone. My 5 family members drove up and down every street for a 2 mile radious screaming her name for 8 hours. I was absolutely frantic. She didnt have a tag, so the nice ppl who found her kept her in the yard until animal control picked her up.
It was the longest 8 hours of my life. I had just had to put down my Raychal dog after 16 yrs of being part of my very loving family. I kept calling animal control every hour-drove the lady crazy! But I knew of a family pet that was put down by accident, and would just die if that happened.
I am sure they thought I was irresponsible also, but a dog that is clean, flea free and has tags is likely a very loved family pet.
Have you thought of putting up flyers for a few days before sending it to animal control?
Thanks for being a loving kind person, and taking this dog in so it wont be killed by a car!

Well, one of the numbers on the tags happened to belong to a family that found the dog before. I contacted him and he gave me the number to the owners that he returned the dog to previously. I have left a msg and hopefully she will call me back soon. I hate seeing him in that pet crate but he is trying to get my cats and driving my dogs crazy. He is full of fleas and needs a bath. The man that found him before lives quite a ways away from me so he must have been gone a long time before when he got out. He is very lucky he didn 't get hit by a car!!! He is a very sweet little guy. His name is Clyde. I hope his owner calls soon.
I don't need to put out flyers since have the owners name and number but I can't keep him too long. I will have to call animal control and give them her number.0 -
sure, you are left with no choice. It is hard to be an animal lover without be a rescue center!!
Good luck and I hope the owner calls soon. (Or not, maybe someone will get him from the Kennel that will love him and take care of him!):flowerforyou:0 -
Well, I finally got in touch with the "owner" last night and now I am just mad! She tells me that the dog originally belonged to her son, who lives in El Paso like 400 miles away. He gave the dog to one of her friends here in Canyon Lake. But the friend has horses and the horses don't like the dog and have kicked the dog. So the friend gave the dog back to her. So now she lives in a garage apt and doesn't want the dog. She told me to find a good home for him or call the animal control. Why is this MY responsibility? Why do I have to send him to his death if I can't find a home for him? I am not happy about this AT ALL!!!

several breeds have a rescue organization...I would imagine Jack Russell's have one...your local humane society could probably help out with info...thanks for taking the little one in...0

YAY!!! I found a home for him. A lady that I work with is taking him home for her 3 kids!!! Yay Clyde!!0

Aww, well done0
-
great job!!!
hopefully clyde is fixed. if not, it would be best if the new owners got him fixed ASAP. there are lots of low cost spay/neuter options around the country. hopefully (if he is not fixed) it can be done soon - he probably wont try to run away anymore!0 -
that is awesome! thanks for helping the lil guy out~:flowerforyou:0

I went and picked him up after I found out Angie would be taking him and guess what. He just stayed in her office and acted like he was hers all along. Dogs are sooooooooooooo smart.
He is not fixed but I'm sure she will be doing that soon. Her husband came in to see him and fell in love!!!
Don't you just love a happy ending?

speaking from experience:
although very frustrating at times, helping animals find homes is truly rewarding and something to be proud of!

That is the second one in a month I have found a home for. I told my husband that "Al" the first dog I found/placed probably put the word out to all the other dogs in the neighborhood and they are all going to start coming to my house!!! LOL I don't mind if it keeps them from being killed or abused then I am more than happy to do it!!! I have enough animal loving friends that finding homes shouldn't be a problem!!!!

[ I wasn't complaining about finding him a home, I am happy to do that. What I was and AM mad about is people who don't care enough to make sure they have proper tags so when they get lost they can be reunited with family or in this case owners who no longer want them and force that responsibility on someone else. I did not want to have to be the one to call animal control because I know he would only have had 5 days and would be put down. When my friend told me she would take him I just started crying because I knew he wouldn't be killed for no reason. I love animals, especially dogs, I just can't stand irresponsible owners! (my dad once told me that when he died he wanted to come back as one of my dogs, because they have it so well! lol)
I know what you mean...I rode with our local animal control for a day as a volunteer and it is so sad to see all the dogs that owners either dont take care of or actually drive into a different neighborghood to drop them off....you wonder how stupid and cruel some people are without even knowing it...anyway...glad Clyde found a new home0 -
well I love all 3 of my dogs they all have updated tags but I have to admit my 3rd dog does have a chip and I have never activated it
but doesn't mean I don't love her
You did a good deed with the lost doggy ..:flowerforyou:0 -

Memaw, YOU are my hero... how cool of you! seriously I think every human being needs to take a page out of your humanitarian book... we need more responcible people out there, people who will not abuse or misstreat animals. it sickens me when i see an animal who has been neglected, I once got into a "conflict" with a neighbor because of the way he was treating his dog, it was a beautiful "frisbee dog" i do not know what breed it was but it was black and white, very cute dog with longer hair, but you could see its ribs and its eyes were deep in teh sockets, it was always matted... poor thing it was the sweetest dog ever it would come over and sit by us when he wanst home and give teh greatest kisses. when I told teh guy he should feed his dog on a more regular basis he told me to mind my own buisness... i for one think it becomes my buisness when an animal whom can not stand up for itself is in danger... people piss me off... sorry for hijacking your thread...
BRAVO GIRL!!! doggies everywhere wuv you!0 -

UPDATE
Clyde, the subject of this thread went home to his new family last night and all were in love. He slept in the bed with the little boy (5 year old). Every one just loved him!! Things worked out well and I couldn't be happier.
Same thing with the dog I rescued last month. "Al" is healthy and happy and living with my son and his family. He acts like he has been there all along. If any one comes over and plays with the kids, he stands right there to make sure they are okay!!!
So I'm 2 for 2!!!!! Yay!!!!!:bigsmile:0
