Hey MFPers! I was wondering if anyone has some tips on how to reach protein goals without going over on other macros, such as carbs and fat? I like meat but am not one to just eat a hunk of meat as a meal :)

eggs, tuna, chicken breasts, beans, protein shakes...
  • Protein Shakes made with unsweetened almond milk and berries. It's really yummy, low in calories, and if you buy a high quality protein - the protein adds no sugars, carbs or fat to the shake. For breakfast, I have 8oz of unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 cup of berries of your choice, 1 scoop of Dymatize - Iso-100 Hydrolized Whey Protein, a few cubes of ice and mix in a blender for a minute. The shake has a total of 210 calories, 16 g of carbs, 4 grams of fat, 27 grams of protein, 2 grams of sugar and 9 grams of fiber. A very well balanced meal and super yummy too. My kids even love them.

You can look at my diary, it's open. If I log ANYTHING for this evening though, ignore it.

Protein powder has been my go-to filler between foods, and after workouts. It would be really hard for me without it. Considering how much you get for the cost, it's pretty reasonable on the wallet for a supplement.

I should note, I try to make an effort to get a good amount of natural protein from food in at each regular meal time. It took some getting used to, but it wasn't too difficult as long as I planned ahead.
  • Nonfat Greek yogurt has a ton of protein! I get the plain and mix it with frozen berries and a tiny bit of almond granola. Also natural peanut butter on toast.

Google a product called Profect (disclaimer: I work for the company). They make a 3oz liquid with 25g protein in it, its only 100 calories (just the calories from the protein). It has 0 fat and 0 carbs, it is made with artifical sweetner which some people don't like.
  • Whey protein powder is a natural product sourced from milk. One scoop contains 100 calories and 25 to 30 grams of protein. It's an efficient way of meeting your protein requirements without consuming a lot of calories. Most grocery stores and nearly all vintamin/health stores carry it.

It tastes terrible, but if you mix it with milk it isn't bad.

Replace your carb serving with protein serving.
I used to eat 1 cup of rice or 2 slices of bread at each meal. Now 1/2 of that.
Chili is great protein meal ( beans & ground meat)
