Help with shoes!

I'm pretty new to exercising and going to the gym.
I needed shoes so I went and bought a pair that I thought would be okay. I have the ASICS Women's GEL-1160 Running Shoes. But everytime I'm on the elliptical machine, the inside arches of my feet hurt from rubbing. I end up with a huge blister in that spot.
Is this normal and will pass or should I try a different brand/type of shoes?

I don't know if you really need running shoes, but maybe a good cross-trainer would be better. unless you plan to do just running ??0

your shoes should never hurt your feet. Did anyone help you at the store or did you just grab a pair and go?
If you go to a good store they will give you several pairs to try...even having you try one on each foot...say a Nike and a K swiss. They will also tell you to run in them, hop skip jump...whatever you plan on doing in them. They will also look at your arch to see if you need extra support...I would guess no if it is rubbing that much....you might need a shoe with less of an arch to it.
My running shoes are the K swiss tubes...I have to use an arch support in them and I only use them for running. I LOVE the way they feel and have never had any trouble with blisters. Took them home from the store and went straight home and ran in them...brand new, no blisters.
Hope your poor feet feel better soon..oh yeah, if you are running you will need extra room for expansion as you land...so a bigger shoe might be what you need.0 -
forgot to add that if you are planning on running it is worth it to pay for a good shoe. It may seem expensive but a good running shoe will make a huge difference.0

Body Glide or vaseline where you blister will help. Good socks can make a difference as well.
If you are not using them for running, I would try the above before shelling out money for a new pair. If you are using them for running, I would go to a running specialty store and get fitted for proper shoes the next time. The wrong shoe can cause problems.0 -
Some times wearing two pairs of socks helps with a problem like blistering.0
