I am hypothyroid and heard that people with hypothyroidism shouldn't eat peanut butter (or peanuts at all). I love, love, love natural peanut butter and so I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is actually true....thanks :)

I was diagnosed hypothyroid 11 years ago and have never heard this. I eat peanut butter just about every day. My levels have been stable for years, and my medication hasn't been increased in at least eight years. It was actually decreased a little bit three years ago.

I've actually heard that those with hypothyroidism shouldn't eat soy products. I don't know how true, if at all, this is. I never eat soy anyways so haven't been concerned about this.

Edited - I just googled it and there are some that say you should avoid peanuts and soy products as well as some other things. I have never been told this by my doctor and will continue to eat my apple with peanut butter every evening. I would say the best person to discuss this with would be your doctor. Good luck!

I actually heard the same thing about soy products, so I've been staying away from them as well. Well this is comforting to hear, I will not give up my pb then and try to eat it in moderation! Thank you :)

Never heard it before and Ive been Hypothyroid my whole life and I agree everything in moderation unless a doctor has actually told you things, Ive heard eating some things makes us gain more and eating particular things have been said to help us lose but nothings been said by my doctor

I was told by my doctor not to eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice after going on my synthroid generic. I'm pretty sure he said it might cause a fatal reaction. 'Might' covers a range wider than 0.01% to 99.99% and I didn't really have any qualms about giving up grapefruit (which I never liked anyway). I have no idea about any other magic food combinations with hypothyroid medication.

I've been hypothyroid a few years now, and I eat peanut butter sandwiches at least three or four days a week. So far, I'm still alive.

At least I was last time I checked.

I didn't mean it would make you die or sick, just worsen the side effects that come with hypothyroidism :)

Oh, I didn't think you were implying that; I was just being a smarta$s.
