Belly button piercing?

I've been wanting to get one done as my "ultimate reward" kind of deal, but I would like to hear other's experiences with them. The thing I'm most worried about is swimming. I'm on a swim team and don't think you're allowed to swim for a while once you get it pierced?
Tell me your story. The good and bad experiences, etc.

I have one and I love it. It did get a little bit infected for the first couple months, but it's been years and I haven't had a problem since. I don't think you're supposed to swim for several months after you get it at the risk of infection. I think it's worth it though; best of luck! I'm sure you will be happy with whatever you decide0

I swam but not in the lake for a couple weeks till it was healed. Keep it clean. I don't know if you have anything else pierced but it hurts more than your tongue and less than say nipples I guess.0

I also want to get my belly button pierced when I reach my goal weight (about three years ago I went to my grandmothers house, and she came into the livingroom and handed me an piercing with a jewel hanging, I asked her what it was b/c I didn't know and she said it was a belly button piercing and that when I lost enough weight, she wanted me to get it pierced. I've kept it ever since)
I have a bunch of friends with their belly buttons pierced, none of them have a problem with them--one friends became infected bceause she switched out her belly button ring with one that had hanging jewels before her piercing was completely healed, so she had to take it out & have it re-pierced.
. I have my tongue, nose, eyebrow, both tragus' & 2x on both ears & my left cartilage-- I can't wait to get my belly button pierced!!0 -
I had mine pierced for years. Took almost 10 months to fully heal. Worst part was being a waitress with one. It would catch on everything I carried and you had to plan pants accordingly. Now granted I am a good bit older than you so I tend to wear higher waisted pants....no mom jeans or anything like that though0

I got mines pierced at 16. I still have it pierced and I'm 25. I didn't have any issues, no infections; I wasn't bothered by any pain. The only thing I remember was it was a little sore right after when I sat down to drive in my car. I don't know why but that's all I remember lol. I had a worse time with my eyebrow pierced and had to take that out. I’m not a swimmer so I can’t help you there. However, if you want one go for it. I don’t even pay attention to mines really, I just feel weird without it though. haha0

I got mine done last year right before I turned 20 as my "reckless teenager" last hurrah....
The Good:
It did not hurt at ALL. Granted I was freaking out and I'm sure had some adrenaline, but it hurt less than my ears.
I love the way it looks!
The Bad (sort of):
It took FOREVER and a day to heal. Literally--got it on Nov. 14 2010, and I'm just now getting to the point where I'm considering getting a different piercing.
This was due in part to the fact that I was inconsistent cleaning it. I'd go a week cleaning it a lot--3x a day, and then I'd forget to clean it one night if I got back late from a party. The next morning it would already be icky.
The first few months it's really sensitive to things like sweat and dirt--i.e. working out and wearing the same clothes often...
I did swim a lot, though, and as long as I cleaned it right afterward, I had no problems with that.
The guy who did mine told me to get antibacterial SoftSoap and clean it w/water and SoftSoap 2x a day. I also got tea tree oil and put that on it as well....It worked, it just took a long time, and it never really got *infected* just a bit irritated.0 -
I had mine for years... so I do not remember the specifics. Never had a problem with it, and I love it! Takes a while to heal - so make sure you take care of it. Agree with the previous posts -- it doesn't hurt at all, more like a pinching (do not pay too much attn to the needle, because it looks scary)
But yea -- go for it!! It's a very essential part of the 'sexified' package! HAHA0 -
I don't have my belly button pierced, but from other piercing experiences, use saline or contact solution to clean it. It will help it to heal quicker, as well. When my tragus' got infected from changing earings, contact soultion on a q tip 1-2x daily cleared it right up. I'd get my belly button pierced but I don't think I'll ever be skinny enough for it haha
Good luck deciding0
