Running pain question.

I was doing my regular routine the other day and just randomly decided to run. I did a couple laps round the track. Not bad for my first time ever really running, IMO. (I've always avoided it whenever possible.)
I was expecting some pains. Duh, right? I had just done something brand new. The only pain I wasn't expecting was the pain I have in my feet and ankles. It's a sore muscle type of pain, nothing shooting or aching.
I guess my question is:
Is the pain in my ankles and feet normal for a beginner, or is it indicative of needing a new pair of shoes? Am I doing something wrong?

Hard to say, but if you've basically never run before and you're just experiencing a little soreness, it's probably pretty normal.0

I'd say both. You're doing something new, and odds are you haven't researched the shoes you need either. Good luck!0

take it easy.....dont ask a shoe salesman this ...ha...with any new physical actvity...EASE into it......have fun0

Maybe both? You should look into the type of running shoes are best suited for your foot type. I have separate shoes I wear for running than my other workouts--otherwise my feet would kill me. :sad:0

Seems that trip to The Running Store in town I was debating on is decided now. :P Not that I have the money to buy anything ATM. However, knowing what shoes would be good for me then doing some research of my own will be nice.
Thanks for the replies, guys.0 -
you must try Couch to 5k if you want to take up running its a great app you can get for free I was like you when first started running and didnt really know what I was doing it was plain awful but now I really enjoy it try some new running shoes if you think thats the issue or just play around with your stride and the way you land your feet I have really flat feet so I tend to just land flat on the ground but I changed the way I was running and i now my feet dont hurt0

oh try shoe inserts too if you dont want to spend the money on new shoes they always make my shoes feel brand new0

Oh, I hadn't even thought of that option!0 -
I had to get new shoes when I started running because your feet take more of a beating than just walking or lifting, etc.
Also, you just worked your MUSLCES in your feet/ ankles. So yea, they're going to hurt.0 -
I agree with the C25K suggestions..If you've never run before and you jump in, you can really hurt yourself! Take it easy!0
