Excess Skin?

I have been wondering for a while about whether or not there is a way to prevent having excess skin after a major weight loss. My BEST guess would be to lose the weight slowly, and also do strength training rather than just cardio. I have looked up some things on it, but nothing that really makes me feel better. I don't want to have to undergo surgery. I'm 6' 276 lbs. I've been overweight my entire life, and I hope that once I do get down 100lbs, I won't have to deal with it. My biggest fear is that my skin has been stretched for so long, it may not be able to get back to how it's supposed to be.
If anyone could share stories, or has any helpful information, it would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you so much, and good luck to all of you!

  • I'm 6' too!!!! but i don't really know the answer to your question my highest was 230 and now im at 175 but I'm also really scared about excess skin I dont have any yet, but I want to get down to 150 or 155 so we will see. I've been losing it very slowly though like it took me about a year to get from 205 to 175 but it was worth the wait (: i would suggest pilates. it made my abs amazing and tightened up my tummy and legs sooooo much!!! seriously AMAZING work out. i mostly did mat pilates. there's chair pilates (which i don't like at all) and there are machines specifically made for pilates which are really fun!
also -- i had an amazing teacher in my first classes that i took, but i just moved and have the most horrible teacher so if you hate it at first you might just have a bad teacher (i don't like chair b/c the bad teacher is the person that taught me chair) you should have someone that mostly walks around and corrects your body. good luck!
