My 21st birthday is in exactly 2 months and instead of going to the bars I'm having a cocktail party, which means one thing.... I need a cocktail dress. I want to look my best in my birthday dress, unfortunately I've already looked around and I look hideous in everything! I want to lose as much weight as possible before my birthday so that I look my best on my big day :-)

How much do you think I could realistically lose in 2 months? Anyone have suggestions on how to get my legs and back toned for my dress?

I'm looking for styles like these and with a lower cut back:

  • 30 Day Shred with Jillian to try to tone your back as best as possible. I love that you are having a cocktail party rather than hitting the bars. Sounds fun! : )

Good luck! Just keep working hard like you have been and you will be a beautiful birthday gal!

If you're really dedicated and do this by eating properly and exercising, you could lose 10-15 lbs in 2 months. Love the dresses, btw!

    Thanks gals!

On another note: what types of cocktails can I serve without completely ruining my hard work. Is there such a thing as a "light" cocktail?

There are light cocktails..... I wouldn't worry to much about it though. Its your birthday and you should enjoy it. While you may retain a bit of water for a few days, one evening of enjoying yourself will not undo all of your hardwork. You will be fine :)
  • Asos.com for cute dresses.

30 Day shred will get you in THE best shape of your life. Don't weigh yourself on it though, because you may be discouraged as you won't lose much. But it will tone the heck out of you and make you look like you've lost a ton of weight. Trust me! I looked the best I ever did after shredding. I weigh much less now, but looked so much better after finishing the program.

Trop50 orange juice is the ultimate calorie saver for drinks. One cup is only 50 calories.

One shot of vodka or tequila is about 100 cals, so if you want to save on calories only pour in 2/3 of a shot to save 33 cals.

Vodka with diet soda or with carbonated water and lemon are what most calorie counting girls get.

I prefer a skinny margarita which is only 100 cals because I just like tequila better. :)

    Have fun girl!

    HI there,

You say you look hideous in everything. A) I'm convinced that's not true at all and B) the styles of dress you've chosen are called body con for a reason - they are SERIOUSLY unforgiving! I would never and have never worn styles like that because I'm an hourglass shape with tree trunk legs.

What body shape are you? (i.e. where are your plumpest bits and skinniest bits?). Depending on your shape, there will be dresses that make you look gorgeous. I wear knee length full skirts and things that emphasise my bust and waist for formal wear.

Also, what about colours? You're blonde - some reds will work well on you and some won't. Straight black isn't your best colour. A navy/ midnight blue would be better (not cobalt - too harsh).

By all means exercise, but also make good clothing choices!

I'm sure ameba isn't a body type haha but if I had to guess my body type it would be hourglass... I never know what styles are good for my body type
  • How exciting! Oh to be 21 again...Ok back to reality! :) I have to agree with Eleanorjaneth, by all means, you have time to work hard and lose some weight an, but more importantly, dress in a style and color that flatters YOU!! There are tons of tips online for whatever bodytype you are and also for what color will flatter you best. Take advantage of the resource and research it a little. Dont get caught up in what you are seeing on TV or what your friends are wearing. Make sure it works best for YOU. It is your day not theirs. HAVE A FANTASTIC TIME!!
  • As a 22 year old who has been there and done that...a few pieces of advice. When looking for cocktail dresses I would not go with the ones you picked because unless your stomach and sides are completely flat, they will do you no justice. Instead, I would suggest dresses with rouching, like this one http://canada.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=F21&Category=dress&ProductID=2000018146&VariantID=

Either that or a dress that's fitted on the top and flows out a bit after the waist.

This is also good in that you won't have to suck in your stomach after a few drinks ;)

As for cocktails, I suggest vodka and cranberry using Diet Cranberry (only 5 cals plus the vodka). But honestly, on your birthday, just drink whatever you like that gets you drunk and happy. Your 21st is definitely a well-deserved break from counting calories.
