Suggestions for appetizers?

I"m going out this evening with friends for a drink and appetizers. I will have some red wine and I'm okay with that because this is for life and I need to be able to have an occasional glass of wine - and to go out with friends. We are going to a nice little neighbourhood restaurant/bar - not a chain - and I need some ideas for what my best appetizer choices might be. They have things like brie cheese in pastry , nachos, dips and crackers - actually I can't remember the types of things they have.
What do you choose when ordering appetizers?

Vegetables and salsa or hummus0

Clear soup, salad with dressing on the side, or order the indulgent one only if you can share most of it with other people.
Another option is to bring a plastic container and put part of it away to take home before you take your first bite.0 -
try to avoid anything fried. which i know can be almost impossible in an appetizer setting.0

you could probably do ok with cheese and crackers if you don't go all out on the cheese!0

I suggest being crazy and bringing your own or having it at a home instead of a restaurant!
Carrots, broccoli, celery, with pb2 and hummus
Ramekin with two tablespoons pasta sauce, baked egg, and topped with cheese
Tossed salad
Deviled eggs
Granny smith apple with a slice of cheddar
Pinwheels- roll out a sheet of puffed pastry, add 2 tablespoons strawberry preserves, roll into a log and cut into pieces, bake for 15 minutes
Just to name a few
If you just HAVE to get something there... Salad? Bruschetta?0 -
I just order what I want and will enjoy, and chalk it up to a treat. If you don't eat that way every day for every meal, one indulgence won't hurt you. I enjoy boneless buffalo chicken. Ask if you can swap light ranch dressing for the bleu cheese. Or chicken quesadilla. Yum.
Many restaurants don't allow outside foods or drinks.0 -

If you are enjoying an evening out you can treat yourself without blowing the whole day. Its ok to eat something you will enjoy, just keep it at a moderate level. If you feel guilty about it just get a little bit of extra exercise in. Enjoy!0

Thank you all. You are right. I should enjoy myself without going nuts and then not let that throw me off.0
