Is Greek yogurt like regular yogurt?

As far as taste and texture? I can't stand regular yogurt. It's so soft and yucky. I have this image of Greek yogurt being a different texture, but I'm pretty sure I made that up. Can you describe it?

I find it slightly thicker with a similar flavor.

I do not like plain yogurt. I do not like plain greek yogurt.

But when I add vanilla whey and frozen mixed berries, I LOVE IT.

It's a bit firmer than regular yogurt, more custard-like, but definitely still kinda mooshie.

It's slightly more sour and thicker, but I find it way more delicious. I don't recommend it plain, fruit flavors are awesome. I love pomegranate Chobani.

It's also has more protein, win!

I like to pretend it's ice cream. I like normal yogurt (as long as it's not plain. Yuk.) but I do prefer Greek yogurt. It's a lot thicker and creamier.

This! Also, I use Chobani. I actually started eating this at the suggestion of my doctor...it is super high in protein per cup. Try it this way if you like smoothies--I sometimes drink one before a run.

    1/2 c fage
    1 banana
    1/2 c strawberries
1/2-3/4 c Orange Juice or vitamin water (flavor I like is Orange or Berry)
    ice

    Blend until smooth! YUMMY!

or, haven't tried the below but sounds like a good combo:

    1/2 c fage
    1 banana
    1 TBS almond butter
    1/2-3/4 c coconut water
    ice

    Blend until smooth

i agree! greek yogurt is thicker in texture, not all watery like dannon or yoplait. the best greek yogurt is the Fage brand. mix in a few drops of honey and it's yum yum!!! i am not a fan of regular yogurt either personally i think it's gross.

It is VERY thick, and it is not something I can eat plain. I stir in a teaspoon of Splenda brown sugar and some strawberries to make a yummy treat.

Nasty stuff in my opinion... maybe buy a couple different kinds/brands/flavors in small amounts to see how you feel about it. Thicker than "normal" yogurt, but definetely bitter...

I've hated yogurt my whole life. What I recently realized is that I don't hate yogurt, I just hate that crap that Yoplait, Dannon and others attempt to pass off as actual food.

The Greek stuff is an entirely different thing. I can't get enough now.

I agree with everyone here, it's a lot thicker than regular yogurt, and more sour. I get the vanilla flavored, and add fruit or granola, I don't mind it on its own but id rather mix something in.
  • The flavor of plain Greek yogurt is the same of regular plain yogurt, but the texture is way thicker.

I prefer my yogurt plain! The fake fruit flavors and craploads of extra sugar give me the creeps.

Add your own real fruit! Yum.

Way thicker and more protein. I add either fresh fruit or a scoop of protein powder for a more filling snack

I recommend Chobani 2% pineapple. The 2% flavors are more creamy and filling than the non-fat.

Most regular yogurt is thickened using gelatin, which seems kind of weird since it's a lot thinner...

yes this ^^^ it's like sour cream! LOL! but it is sooo good for you and packed with protein. I like to put a tablespoon of dark chocolate chips in it for a great snack. Chocolate chip sour cream yum yum!

I personally don't like Greek Yogurt because of the texture. I have to mask it by using it as a thin sauce on fruits. I have to eat a whole can of peaches to mix with the single cup of greek yogurt to eat it :(

Speaking of sour cream...I use the plain Chobani instead of sour cream. Seriously, It tastes the same with fewer calories/fat, etc.

I am partial to the different honey flavors. Luckily for me, I like most of them and even the brands I don't really like are tolerable in that flavor so I get to save extra money at the store by buying whichever is on sale.

All I really need for breakfast these days is a cup of Greek yogurt and a coffee.

Anyone ever been to the Mad Greek in Baker, CA? They do THE most amazing homemade plain greek yogurt then they add different nuts, raisins, and give you packets of honey to add if you want it. I really didn't need the honey. Unfortunately my youngest took a liking for it and appropriated the container I brought home with me. :grumble:
