How long to wear HRM?

How long after exercise do you wear your HRM? I let mine go until I'm below my target rate, about 120 (my rate's like 121-159). I've heard people say they wait until it's below 100. Is there a "proper" way to do it?

I wear it for about 5 minutes while I cool down, and my heart rate is usually around 100 at that point. I keep it on because I'm still burning more calories form my workout even after I finish it, but I limit it to 5 extra minutes.0

I walk to and from the gym, and don't count that walk - so everything from the minute I open the gym door to the minute it closes behind me is counted. On a bike ride, it's when I leave my front gate, and when I ride back through it.
The extra calories I burn on the walk to and from the gym I don't count as I figure my estimations from my food aren't 100% accurate so I might as well have a few extra up my sleeve. It's only a couple of minutes each way! And after a ride, my heart is still pounding even while I'm taking my shower, but I figure the same thing.0 -
i usually include my cool down, but if my heart rate is still high i'll try and bring it down. once its down under 120 i turn it off. Usually its only an extra 2 mins at most, and if its already low in my cool down i'll turn it off.0

I just started using HRM. I noticed that when I was jogging for 30 minutes it had recorded only about 230 cal. That's when I switched it on during the work out. But today when I left it on longer until my heart rate went below 120 ....it recorded 400 cal. That's almost double not being counted.
Similarly happened during my 30 DS workout. Cal recorded when HRM switched just during workout is 180. But left it on until my heart rate is lower than 120 was about 3500 -
