Ok so I am 21 years old and weigh 138 today. I have been on this site since December and I love it. However my schedule makes it hard to get on here and log my food. I am a college student taking 6 classes 5 days a week, I live an hour away from campus, and I work 25 hours a week. I live at home with my parents and am engaged to a wonderful man.
So where does my problem come in? I am so busy I can't think straight which leads to eatting lots of junk food. I recently joined a gym and have been attending 3-4 days a week. No change in my body. I went away this weekend with my fiance and gained 5 pounds.
I need advice on what to do to stay on track. I really want to hit my goal weight but am stuck and frustrated. Everytime that I get frustrated I eat more.
Please give me motivation on how you got through your tough times of weight loss!!!!!

I can't give you motivation that you need to get yourself but I will give you some advice.

First and foremost- you can't gain 5lbs in a weekend. It takes 3500 calories to gain or lose a lb.

I understand being busy we are all busy but you have to make time- You and your fiance can hit the gym together. You obviously know what your downfall is and thats eating junk food so leave it be
Dont reach for food as comfort.

Exercise more- trade your junk food for better meals/snacks. Its a working progress. You don't have to deprive yourself of things you like its all about portion control and moderation.
  • Stop and think! Just invision of where you want to be and what it takes to get there. If you feel the urge to eat think of all the work you will need to do to burn it. Then grab a water and apple.

i bring portable snacks with me, like string cheese, nuts, baby carrots, fruit. And man are you busy i have kids so everything revolves around the next meal. but when you get up in the morning think about what you have to do for the day and if you will be away from healthy foods then bring some good stuff with you, just like you would a water bottle. i feel you on the frustrating part man, making changes is a challenge, but look at all the schooling and stuff you are doing, if you can change in that way you just have to treat this like something you have to do and don't get emotional about it. You have to eat right. and you have to make time for yourself, and believe me i know it's hard when you are young, but you got it girl, you just gotta put your mind to it!!!

I was thinking the same thing about your "weight gain". I'm sure that you're probably retaining some fluid or something!!

Hang in there! Make wise food choices & try to take one day, one meal, one workout at a time! Surround yourself with the positive & focus on what you can change, what you can adjust to make yourself successful!

    You can do this!

Mrsyak2 is so right...the scales are showing that because fatty foods and foods that are high in salt make you retain water. Go to the gym and hit some hard core cardio- make you sweat and drink a lot of water and get back on track... your weight loss has to be a priority just like your job, your fiance, your school...you can find 30 minutes to do something. i try to think of my food as the major food groups. if i have a biscuit for breakfast and eggs then at lunch i try to fit in the other part of the food group- i have a salad with grilled chicken and an apple and fruit for my snack then at night a protein, a bread, veggies..keep it balanced.. don't eat too many starches but don't leave them out just eat the good ones.. your body needs them. You can do it. Stay off those scales. Weigh only once a week at the same time with the same outfit on. I weigh in my pjs on sunday mornings before i go to my biggest loser class.. Good luck. But it's not luck it's a change of lifestyle.. Oh I forgot one thing. Get some raw almonds.. not smoked! just raw.. take them with you and eat a few with some water. will hold up your hungar and help you make better choices at mealtimes!

Create meals and snacks ahead of time. I pack fruits, nuts, protein bars, and then wake up early to pack my lunch. You can also freeze meals and have them ready for a microwave. I have a busy schedule, but I've learned to make 5 minute meals. (Rachel Ray doesn't even do that!) It's takes a lot of discipline, but you can do it!

You sound about where I was 10 years ago. I wasn't part of anything close to MFP, but what I did to stay on track and not eat junk food...I packed a lunch. It was full of every good thing I could stuff in there. Breakfast, snacks, lunch, and more snacks. Keep a good variety in there. Even if you go over your calories...you know it's good food and not candy or junk.

Prep in advance. Freeze a water bottle the night before making it easy to keep certain items cold.

You can do it. Just plan a little more! When in doubt for a suitable meal...take a protein bar as the main course and fill the rest of your busy day with snacks.
