Eat more. Sounds counterintuitive I know but it works. Your body can slow and adapt to 120) calories a day. Balance e of cardio and strength training

I eat between my BMR (never under that) and TDEE (never over that). I weight train 3 days per week to preserve lean muscle mass. I do cardio 6 days per week.

I wait patiently for good things to happen. I don't give up after a couple of weeks, months, etc. I keep at it until I get to goal.

If you workout 6 days a week and burn 1200 calories each time you workout, and are only eating 1200-1400 calories, you need to eat more lol. :)

You know a bummer I read somewhere on here? I guess african americans typically use less calories when exercising. So essentially their bodies are acutally more efficient than caucasians when it comes to using calories but it sucks if your trying to lose weight. Sorry I cant quote that info but I just read it on someones blog that had it quoted from somewhere (I wanna say web MD).

I lost around 35-40lbs and was hovering around 140 and 143 for 2years. I exercised like crazy and ate little but I could never get beneath 140 (my goal was then 135-130). Then I got a job with this organization for 10months and couldnt really exercise like I had or eat as controlled as I was doing. After the job I was at 140 and within a month of exericising and controlling my food I got down to 133. That was in August and I've been hovering around there ever since. What I'm suggesting is to take a break, not 10months, but maybe one to two weeks. Slow down your exercising to three times a week and keep your calorie intake at a level to maintain your weight. Then after the break go back to it. Maybe that will be enough to shock your body and get you back into weight loss.

  • I've been trying the same thing you have with little to no weight loss and saddly a little weight gain. :( My 2 major weight loss days were over thanksgiving weekend and this week after attending 2 holiday parties. I'm starting to agree with the idea of eating more...the results speak for themselves! My problem is how much and how often...good luck!
  • I keep trying to reply and it's not going through. I apologize if this gets double-posted.

    Hi Unicorn!

I,like you, stalled in my weightloss plan, even though I love the MyFitnessPal app on the iPhone and I love using the website to calculate my recipes' calories, carbs, protein and % calories from fat, and to track my weight and inches lost.

I lost 4 lb in my first 2 weeks using MyFitnessPal, and then stalled, even though I really religiously tracked my diet and exercise for another 6 weeks. I was exercising lots, always hovering around my calorie goal, but frequently going over the recommended % calories from fat, sometimes 40% or 50% of calories were from fat. I didn't realize I was addicted to dairy and fat.

Long story made short about how I started losing weight again:

Watched "The Last Heart Attack" on CNN. Ordered and read the books "The China Study" by T. Colin Cambell and "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease" by Caldwell B. Esslestyn. Watched DVD "Forks over Knives"

Stopped tracking food and exercise, stopped counting calories, stopped eating all meat, poultry, fish, dairy, eggs, oils.

Started eating as much as I want, when I want. Food is delicious, filling and it's impossible to overeat.

Lost 12 lb in the last 11 weeks.

Besides what everyone else said I invested in a HRM. It was a major difference between what MFP/online calculators estimate I burn to what a HRM says.

I agree with the HRM idea, I seriously do not believe you regularly burn 1200 calories at a workout, unless you are doing 2 hour spin classes or something. Which leads me to think you are not measuring your calories as accurately as you could be either (weighing your food etc, counting EVERYTHING). Check that what you are believing you are doing is exactly what you are doing (I see you're a busy mum so you may not have that much time and need to take short cuts etc)
Like someone else said on here its not how much you eat but what you eat as well, make sure its clean. veges/lean meat/ wholegrains. NO junk.

cardio for an hour and ten mins. I have mixed it up a lot though to keep it interesting. Swimming, running is my go to, stationary bike, uphill walking, elliptical, stepping. I add some weight training but, not yet doing it regularly. Eating wise I cut out red meat and fatty meats like ham and pork. Trying to stick with fish and chicken a few nights a week and vegetarian the rest of the time. Breakfast I only have a protein shake. Cut out junk food obviously and junk drinks too so no juices, frapachinos or sugary beverages I even stopped drinking Naked juices :( oh they were so good. I go for no boxed or processed things so if I want a cookie I try to make healthy ones instead of buying them. I'm one pound away from a 26lb loss, and 2 from being in onederland so it seems to be working. I hope that helps :)
  • I started running, started Turbo Kick classes and added strength training. Find an activity you love so that you're excited about doing it. Of course, like it's been said, watch your caloric intake so that you are eating enough.

agreed as well. It is really hard especially when you feel like you are not seeing results. If you get good ideas from here and do some more research I think sooner or later you will find what works :) you just have to keep looking :)

You know, I don't think you should be asking other people "what did you do to lose weight" rather look closely at what you are doing, really dissect it, to see what YOU are doing to help YOU lose weight. Everyone is different, the tendency on these message boards is to just tell people to do what worked for you, but you have to find a balance that works with your lifestyle and your eating habits.
Also if you are really wanting guidance, you might find it easier to find a plan that clearly does menus tells you exactly what to eat etc to take the guesswork out of it.

Way I do it my dietitian told me is to look at it this way

As a female you don't wanna eat less than 1200 a day
As a male you don't wanna eat less than 1800 a day

Always burn more than you consume for great weight loss
Your body will always have a certain amount a day you will burn just sitting on your butt
For example my body alone is roughly 1600 a day just sitting around doing nothing
    I consume around 1200-1400 a day

Low carb is key, heavier carbs in the morning

Whole grains keep you fuller longer & fresh fruit and veggies and lean meats
Personally I do red meat and taters 2x a week

Remember the heavier you are the more calories you will burn and the smaller you get the harder it gets but we can't let that get us down :)

Like example I gained 195lbs when I quit smoking, I was 135 when I graduated almost 12yrs ago, quit smoking gained weight but didn't get on track til March 2009 when my docs got on my case saying they didn't want me to have a kid til I was at a good weight, October 2010 I lost 156lbs then came stress of buying selling houses, now after my slack phase im back on track in the last month I lost almost 6 lbs :)

I been trying to burn a extra 500-1200 cals a day on top of the 1600 cals and everything else, one thing im trying to watch is sodium and carbs, not trying to burn 4000+ like I was last year a day cause my doc said if im trying to have a baby at the sametime don't over do it just do what I can :)

    we can do this =)

Just remember burn more than you eat just don't consume under 1200 cals as long as ur getting 1200 and plenty of water your good :D (1800 for a guy)

Muscle weighs more than fat, muscle burns more fat

3500 cals to put ON a lb
3500 burned cals to take OFF a lb

If you eat less than those carbs your body will go into starvation mode and store everything & we don't want that!

hope that helps I know it helped me :)

I dropped carbs for a few weeks then slowly re-introduce them as treat meals, keep exercising and losing steadily. I don't eat all exercise calories back but I do allow an extra treat that day. 2 stone lost (28lbs)
