The strap it's self can go in the washing machine. Use only soap and no fabric softener.

The transmitter is the thing that you can't wash at all.

My instructions say that the strap can be washed in the machine. The transmitter should be wiped off, maybe with alcohol. Hope that this works for you.

Had the same issue until I committed to washing/cleaning my strap after each use. Just take it into the shower and wash it with shower soap. Keep the transmitter out of the shower as leaving it on can hasten the growth of rust, which will dilute your connectivity over time. Smell goes away quickly if you do this. Sometimes I'm not able to do this every time, but as long as you maintain at least every other use, you should be good.
  • I also wash the strap in the washer. I use a toothbrush (not the one I brush my teeth with!) to scrub the transmitter. Gunk gets into the small crevices. I also use the brush to scrub the backside of my watch receiver, which also gets a little funky.
