I Just Don't Get It

So I had about 450 calories all day today. I didn't feel real hungry so I didn't think much of it. I went to go workout, and I knew it would be tough because I haven't really worked out in like two weeks. I did some weights with my trainer and then we were going to do abs. She had be do hanging leg lifts (my fav ab move). I started to finally get shakey and light headed and so we stopped. I didn't get nearly all that I wanted to get done done. I had planned to finish abs and then go run and come home and do 30 Day Shred. My trainer, my mom, and my boyfriend all told me I didn't have enough to eat. The thing is though, I try not to eat a lot during the day because I don't usually really know what I am going to eat for dinner (I still live at home and mom cooks dinner for everyone by the time I get home from work). I like to make sure I have room in my calories in case something isn't the greatest in calories.
I came home and had some home made chili. It's got 93% lean beef and low sodium pinto beans. I had like a cup, maybe a cup and a half. Then I went for this dessert that mom had and had maybe a cup. I typed it all in my food diary and I still have calories I can eat. But I already feel horrible for eating what I have eaten today and for not working out as planned. I don't get why I always feel so guilty whenever I eat. I feel like I'm not supposed to eat and I don't know why. Trust me, even though I feel this way, I do eat. I just wish I wouldn't feel so guilty. I guess I am trying to get other people's takes on this and see if I am the only one like this or am I not alone.

Stop giving food an emotion. It's fuel. Delicious fuel, but fuel. It's something you need.
Maybe if you remind yourself that your body is constantly burning calories, whether you're doing leg lifts or running or resting... you need to the fuel to replenish that.0 -
How far would your car go on 1/8 of a tank of gas? If you take off planning to drive 300 miles on 1/8 of a tank of gas, you aren't going to make it. That's basically what you did to your body today. You expected it to function with not enough fuel for the job.0

I am the same way, every time I eat something I feel awful, take for example my dinner today. It was good, but I felt awful. I have been struggling with food since I could remember and I had a form of an eating disorder. Feeling guilty is unhealthy and my fiance has helped me get through it. Slowly I start to forget about it, it is hard and I have no answers on how to stop the feelings of guilt, but to just try and block them out. You can always try and talk to someone you trust/get some help if need be. I still have a hard time, but I am better than I was, lets say a few months ago. You can add me if you wish!0

Well it can be difficult getting used to the fact that you need to eat but not too much. It may be that you are also feeling guilty for the kind of foods you are eating. Try to choose fruits and veggies and more natural foods over processed foods.
You should probably be eating 5-6 small meals. Since you don't know what you will be having for dinner, plan on saving a certain number of calories for dinner (ex 500) and if the meal your mom makes goes over that try modifying it by having a large salad and some meat or make yourself a turkey sandwich, carrots, fruit and a large glass of water.
I wish the best of luck on your weightloss journey and you are not alone.

My thoughts exactly. Your body needs food (fuel). Its hard to make healthy choices, but you'll feel less guilty about what you eat if you know you're putting good stuff in your body.0 -
I used to feel guilty about eating ANYTHING I loved when I first joined a year ago. Then again that's probably why I kept quitting for a few months. Yesterday, I was craving chips along with today. So I ate some, I just ate the portion size. I didn't feel bad for going over my cals yesterday because i was hungry and that's what I watned. It took a while for me to figure out if I try to cut out things COMPLETELY instead of eating in moderation then I'm not going to stick with this.
I eat about 6 small meals a day, atm they aren't 'really' healthy cause like you I still live at home with my parents while I'm going through college and I don't get to make out the ENTIRE grocery list.0 -
it's true that food is fuel, but food is tied to emotions as well. You are completely okay for feeling this way. many of us do, I know I still struggle. sometimes I feel as if I am punishing myself if I don't give into something I really want, or I feel badly if I think I ate the wrong things, etc. . . it takes a while to get rid of some of these feelings, and you just have to remind yourself that food doesn't have power over you, or at least you don't want it to0

Exactly.. what you are doing is plain silly and not helping your weight loss at all. It's actually hindering it. You can still make your own meals while living at home... try pita pizzas and skinny cows for dessert instead of your moms heavy desserts!0 -
Well my mom doesn't really make any really unhealthy stuff, but I get worried about how many calories are in everything. My mom is actually really healthy when it comes to eating and exercising. Even her desserts aren't that bad honestly. She pays attention to what she puts in it.
This is just something I have dealt with since I was a kid. I feel guilty even if I eat fruits and veggies, it has nothing really to do with if something was unhealthy or healthy that makes me feel bad. I see the numbers go up in calorie intake and that bothers me.
I have always been this way. When I was like 5 I remember telling my parents that I was fat and looked like I was pregnant. . .and that's just not something a 5 year old should say to my opinon. I spoke to my older cousin last night. She is a nutritionist and she has dealt with body image issues herself. She really kind of put things into perspective for me. I know to a lot of people I might seem childish or silly, but to me it's kind of a serious thing that I am starting to see. Hopefully I am able to get out of how I've been.0
