Looking for a new weights routine

hey all,
First some background. I've lost 55 lb this year and dropped my BF% from 36% to 25%. I want to keep on losing weight but I am focusing on BF% more now rather than the scale. For most of this year I have been doing a full body dumbbell workout at home from a book by Tom Venuto. Recently I decided to vary things up a little so I headed back to the gym and started a new routine that includes a single warm up set followed by a single set at max weight for about 6 reps. The problem with this routine is that it has some exercises I'm not very familiar with including some that use ankle weights. I've never seen ankle weights at any gym? It's tough to do odd exercises when you're not an experienced lifter, I'm not comfortable with the movements and in a busy gym it can be hard to experiment.
Can anyone recommend a fairly simple free weight based work out that doesn't involve any exotic routines? I like the idea of the high weight low reps and even single set routines, I'm open to anything though. I consider myself not a beginner but not really intermediate level either.
Alternatively should I just have a few weeks of sessions with a trainer to get me established? I had a not so great experience with a trainer a couple of years ago so have been wanting to avoid this.
Thanks.

Rippetoe's Starting Strength, one of the 5x5 programs or Wendler's 5/3/10

Got the book and DVD. Lol
Wanted to get through them all before I started, perhaps I'm over analyzing and should just do it?
Do you do SS?
I've also found the SS wiki useful.0 -

Thanks, I'll check I out. Quick scan indicated the routines are indeed straight forward.0
