Working out around a cyst

I have been several weeks out of the gym because going seems to have seriously irritated a cyst I apparently had in my lower right quadrant. So Ive been about 4 weeks out of exercising because of being in excruciating pain, but I still feel the need to be active and to do something. Ive had a Thanksgiving gain and I dont want to keep gaining. I go Wednesday to get it removed and have parts of my uterus biopsied... So does anyone know of exercises I can do around these operations and working around the pain until I get healed?

I think you had better ask your doctor this - none of us will know the details or what is safe or recommended for you.
Good luck, I hope it all goes well.0 -
I was thinking someone with PCOS might know since thats pretty close to what I have. My lower abs have alot of cysts in them and its pretty painful, but maybe theres some modified exercises I can do. My doctor doesnt listen to me at all or Id be on better pain meds instead of having to live in agony for weeks on end. I need a new one but thats hard without insurance.0

I don't have PCOS, but I did have a big ol' complex cyst and had it removed + tests for endo...honestly, for me, the recovery from the lap was pretty rough. I was flat on my back for 2 weeks, and really tired for another one after that. I do have autoimmune illnesses so my after-effects of the surgery might have been a bit exaggerated, but honestly, I'd recommend just taking it easy and going at your body's pace. The biggest problem was that my entire trunk was sore (lots of residual gases that caused really bad shoulder/chest aches), so that pretty much halted any exercise.
If you're feeling a bit better than I did, though, you may be able to do some of those gentle seated exercises aimed at seniors -- there are probably instructions somewhere online if you google around for sit & be fit and things like that.
Best of luck to you during the surgery!!0 -
Thank you, Ill google that and see what I can work out.0

Oh, it's a pity your doctor isn't more helpful, I hope the surgery goes OK.
Generally, I would be guided by how you feel - don't push yourself too hard while you are recovering, remember that your body needs energy to mend itself and that a general anaesthetic can be rough on your body too.
Maybe ask the staff when you are actually coming home from your surgery, they should be able to give you some specific advice that relates to you.
And remember that diet is a really big part of losing weight (I have read 80%, though I think that's a pretty arbitrary number) so not being able to exercise doesn't mean that you will gain weight. Watch your calories and move as you are able.
Good luck!0
