Strength training = weight gain?

I'm rather tiny, 5'2, and I've recently lost weight without any problem, but after switching low intensity cardio into more strength training, I've stopped losing weight. In fact, I've put on almost half a kilo (1 pound) during these days that I've been doing strength training. Is it that I'm gaining muscles? Or am I just not losing any weight anymore?

Muscle is more dense than fat. Take you measurements so you can see progress. You could still be losing fat but you're most likely gaining muscle.

When you start strength training, you'll often pick up some water weight. This is normal and expected. Keep it up. You're going to like the results :)

As far as adding a muscle weight, it depends on how long you've been doing strength training. You aren't going to see increases very quickly. When I started strength training I actually started losing weight a little faster. I suppose it's just a matter of determining how your strength training compares to your old cardio in terms of intensity, then adjust your calorie intake accordingly.

Like Taso said, it's just temporary water gain. Water is needed to repair muscle. Also you hold more water in the cell (along with glycogen) for you next anticipated workout.

Thanks for responding! It sounds as if I shouldn't be worried, so I'm gonna try not to listen to the scale that much anymore
