I will be driving to my family for Christmas this year and am bringing my pup. He's an almost 2 year old golden retreiver and is very well behaved but the drive is going to be about 15 hours. He always loves car rides but has never been for more than an hour in the back seat. Is there something I can do for him to keep him calm and entertained for the long drive? I drive a Chevy Cruze so it's not a really big car but he will have the whole back seat to himself. Thanks!

Give him a raw hide.....we have two rottweilers and did a 24 hour drive to Florida last year...they pretty much slept the whole way....and ours are usually really hyper in the truck! Good luck and have a great trip!

He'll probably be fine. We take the dog everywhere - long trips... just make frequent stops and make sure he has water.
We give ours a bone but usually he just sleeps or looks out the window. When he starts getting antsy we stop @ a rest stop and let him out for a bit.

Make sure you have his shot records with you. I also take along a thirty foot lead for each of my dogs and eat my lunch at the rest stop where I tie them out so they can stretch their legs a bit. I make sure I have a water bowl and water for every stop (I stop every couple of hours). Are you staying at a hotel or driving straight through?

If you are staying in a hotel, I suggest bringing a fan along to drown out the noise of the other folks staying there. That helps cut down on the reactive barking. I also bring a bag of their toys and bones so that they feel more comfortable and "at home" in the hotel room.
