Extreme Soreness

Okay.. So I just got back on the wagon a few days ago (Saturday).
Saturday - I done basic 'butt workouts', I have the app on my iphone and wanted to try them out. It was the basics like squats and lunges, I only done this for FIVE minutes.
Sunday - My thigh was sore, but I went on a 17 minute walk down my road anyways.
Monday - I did 15 minutes on my recumbant bicycle while my thighs were still sore, and I did Day 1 of 30DS.
So I basically went from 5 minutes, to 17 minutes, to 40 minutes. All in three days, I'm starting to think it was stupid of me.
TODAY, my thighs are EXTREMELY sore. It's so bad I can hardly sit down or walk correctly. I'm debating whether I should take a break from work-outs all together today or just get on the bike for 30 minutes so I at least get a workout in? I think D2 of 30 day shred is completely out of question now, I don't want to overwork my leg muscles and tear something. Is this logical? Advice please.
Oh, today I've tried Muscle rub and a ice bath to reduce the soreness;; neither helped =/

If you're just getting back into it, you're starting a little fast. Take a day or two and do some stretching.0

In general, whether you're fit or not, its not a good idea to work out the same muscle group 2 days in a row - let alone 3! Any body builder can tell you that. Once you've built up your stength and endurance you will be able to handle seemingly easy exercises like this more easily.0 -
I woulndn't say you are at risk of hurting yourself / like tearing a muscle. Proper rest is a very important component of training. Overtraining your muscles slows down your progress.
Try working on something to keep your routine in place, but just do some stretching and perhaps some upper body resistance. Pushups, shadow boxing, pullups ..... To give your legs a break0 -
I can do some yoga exercises today, but in the 30DS it's push-ups, hand-weights and leg exercises. If I don't do them two days in a roll, I'm not sure what else to do? The only 'weightlifting' I can do atm is with hand-weights I don't have any access to our local Y due to money issues.0
